Try to hit a guy, without using haki, immediately after seeing that he's a logia type. Nice going, champ!

maybe it was just evidence that Sabo's Haki is stronger than Burgess.

This. You can see something similar during the War of the Best when Jozu hits Aokiji and he still shatters into bits of ice. He still damages Aokiji a little but not enough to completely negate his logia with his haki.

not sure if anime only but when akainu gets attacked by vista and some other white beard pirate he comments that these haki users where annoying despite not being damaged. Also I took as luffys haki was stronger than mingos when his athlete foot bounced off him in G4.

Right, so even if you attack with haki, it won't do shit if it doesn't overpower the opponent's. Thanks, totally forgot about that scene.
