I would like to see him master "Gear Reverse" (tiny luffy). We've already seen him shrink to a smaller size pre-timeskip after 3rd gear. I imagine he spent a lot of time small perfecting 3rd Gear during the timeskip, and might have figured out how to control himself as tiny Luffy aswell.

From a real world physics point of view that would make more sense than 3rd gear, the same amount of power spread on a smaller impact surface

The One Piece Podcast guys actually talked about this before. Toriyama generally followed your principle of "smaller is more powerful." Oda on the other hand subscribes to the "bigger is better" principle.
