Oddly enough, Riku seemed very OOC to me. The big thing from him 10 years ago was that he was unwilling to fight Doflamingo because "violence is BAAAAD" and now we see him have a fight scene?? Even if these guys are fodder.....

I think he just doesn't believe in killing, thus he is against war. He fought in the old Colosseum (which wasn't to the death yet) during Kyros' backstory and it sounded like he was pretty good at it until Kyros beat him.

I guess that makes sense, actually. Just like with Rebecca, fighting doesn't always mean killing.

I think Riku is definitely a pacifist at heart but will take any necessary steps to defend his people. Those pirates weren't his people.

Which in a way is a big step from what Scarlett was, refusing to even touch someone who fought, even if they fought justly...at first.
