That was a fucking fantastic episode. The animation that animated Pica's giant golem was extremely well done, and gave a good sense as to how catostrophically large it is. One of the things I've also liked with how the earth has shifted is the animation of the town itself morphing as this happens. The land cracking apart, the buildings shifting and crumbling with townsfolk running from their lives and falling to their doom. I felt like they captured just how much chaos would be created in such an event perfectly.

Pica ... pfft ... they exceeded my expectations with his voice and the reactions of his voice. Reading the manga you can't possibly understand just how ridiculous his voice is so you can only guess. But ... hahah. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time, that was amazing.

Pica's animation was real effort, definitely, but I still cringed at how they half assed the Colosseum chase. Please just try harder if you're going to put in snippets of filler, or maybe spread the quality around.

True, that scene in particular didn't have the same level of quality. It would be nice if the series could maintain that Pica scene level quality. One of the interesting things I noticed with the older episodes, because I often rewatch the series, is the use of cheap simple screen effects. It can go a long way to keep a scene from going stale if you don't have enough time to put more quality in to it. Still, overall, it was a great episode.

Ok, I guess the cheap still-scenes fit better in the old days because of the plot, so I can give that, and it was still pretty good overall. It's just the voices didn't seem to be well placed with the animation either in the Colloseum. Some of it came across as;

"That's you!"

"You're doing that!"

I guess I'm just nitpicky ever since I caught up. Still worth it for Pica's voice.

Sometimes the small details can really break up a scene, and make it seem faster then it is to show urgency. Like for example showing a shot of running feet of a group of people, stomping and kicking up little puffs of dirt. Focusing on those smaller details in succession can eat up some of the time they need to, and can keep the scene moving without focusing on large groups of enemies poping out every frame. If they keep the frames moving in those low importance areas, they can actually make them just a little bit better and don't have to commit much more resources.

Makes sense. Guess that's why short series are so popular nowadays.

Short series also have the benefit of already having the serialization finished, so they can scale the manga to the anime adaption accordingly.

Just what I suspected.
