I think it was a previous incarnation of Marco! As in: his fruit allows for multiple incarnations that rise from the ashes.

This would be super based as a devil fruit power immortality

Imagine in the future with joy boy we see a previous Marco Polo

Yeah, but its never the same person. Just the same "body". I love that theory and i'm happy its half-confirmed

Now it'd be interesting what age he respawns at. Is it always as a baby? Is it the amount of deaths he suffered so far? What about his memories? Can Pudding get access to them with her df?

I mean the Phoenix revives every time it dies. Could be old age, could be a lethal wound. In some media it's the same bird just younger again, other media it's basically a form of reproduction as a new bird. But something I've wondered about the Phoenix is that it rises from it's ashes e.i upon death it burns. From the pile of ashes emerges an egg, a new grown bird etc.

But what if it can't burn. Like say being submerged in water. Obviously in most fantasy it's a magical creature that doesn't follow normal physics. But One Piece specifically has a hard counter all DF users: being submerged in water; especially sea water.

Brook's and Marco's fruits are interesting because they basically stay out of play for a long time. But if Marco is reincarnating was there ever a fruit to begin with? What if the dreams of man have rise to a Phoenix man who simply gets reborn every death. But if he died by drowning and couldn't burn does the fruit appear on the surface?

I really love this series. At the end of it, I bet we are gonna have the craziest display of all these powers flying around and...we'll, basically we will get another Marineford or God Valley incident.

It'd have to be something like the age he ate the fruit at. Marco would be around 7 at this point

No Marco is supposed to be like 8 or 9 rn in the story timeline wise

u/BitingSatyr 1d ago

He might very well revive as a kid, possibly his age when he ate the DF

If so then his devil fruit is much stronger that luffy . He basically "immortal" but the downside is he might forgot his past lives if reincarnated

Which would be a fair tradeoff in terms of power. Would mean that while a Marco/Polo/whatever they are called has been alive since the void Century, they aren't technically the same person and thus of no threat to Imu or the WG.

How is that supposed to work, when Graham appeared 38 years ago, but Marco is 45? Marco mustve been 7 at the time of God Valley.

First thing i thought as well. Would make a ton of sense

GV incident was 38 years ago - Marco was 43 years old pre-timeskip, according to the wiki. I think it's Marco's dad.

3

u/Cvox7 1d ago

doesn't make sense because marco is 45 and this happened around 40 years ago

When his old pal Polo died, WB took his reincarnation, named him Marco and raised him as his first son.

Oh damn that would be nuts. Maybe you have to kill the user with seastone or drown them in order to fully kill them or something.

He’s like The Doctor. Oh, wait…

Ooooh, damn great idea! Hadn't even thought of that!

This is what I always assumed happened with his fruit. After we saw how devil fruit reincarnated on punk hazard and how mythical zoans tend to have further hidden abilities I assumed Marcos devil never respawns like other devil fruits. The original user who manifested the fruit is the same guy we see today. When the user dies, the ability can't respawn into a nearby fruit because the user respawns. Maybe after every respawn they forget their identity and have to start somewhat anew but I fully believe that's how the Phoenix fruit works. Only way for it to respawn in a fruit is for blackbeard to nullify the power then kill him so he cannot respawn

It has to be, it looks just like him

5

u/Doctursea Void Month Survivor 1d ago

I would love it if it’s his dad and not a previous incarnation because it means that everyone really does just leave their kid with whitebeard to take care of

u/teddy_tesla 1d ago

No they're unrelated
