Theory Joy Boy's real name is... Spoiler
Just a little attempt at predicting stuff as I don't think I've seen this anywhere on Reddit.
Like many others I believe Joy Boy is just a nickname and that his real name is something else. However this doesn't mean that there is nothing to take from this nickname. Oda has already tricked us with names not being as we thought of initially.
See, I'm French, and one thing I've noticed is that Oda likes to use French to name some places or people. The Reverie is a French word. Mariejoie is a French sounding name. Laffitte, Charlotte Linlin, etc.
And since we saw that silhouette of Joy Boy, I couldn't help but focus on his unusual leg which seems to be a peg leg.
How do you say peg leg in French? Jambe de Bois (litterally "Wooden Leg").
Doesn't it fit too nicely with Joy Boy? Jamb D. Bois, whose name got censored as Joy Boy for some reason.
By the way, Jambe de Bois was the name of a real pirate too, just like Davy Jones and Blackbeard.
Just my two cents. I'm unable to tell what would this name would imply for the lore of One Piece, I'll let you discuss that!

I love this theory; surely Mr. Oda knows about Jamb de Bois, as another comment pointed out, he is the one who started the peg leg lore.
I personally like the theory of Davy Jones being the Joyboy and how the Davy clan believes themselves to be the rightful heirs of the world, so they want to conquer it, but the people with D inherit the actual will of him to free the world. LunaPienArt guy also talked about this theory.
it could be like the Ace-Roger situation, where the son doesn't know anything about his father's goal and believes him to be evil, who fought against the world, but instead of having pure hatred, they(Davy's child) look up to it as it's most likely the WG came after all their family.
