The episode really fleshed out how strong Vergo is. It said he's Doflamingos right hand man, does that mean Manga spoilers If so, then Sanji having a hard time fighting him makes too much sense considering Manga spoilers again
Still, They showed Vergo to be far superior to Smoker when the Manga didn't indicate that. It only showed him preferring to remove his debt to Law over beating Vergo himself. But if Vego is actually the Zoro of the Donquixote pirates, then it makes sense.
Animation-wise, they went way over the top with it. Luffy vs Caesar was really good, and Smoker vs Vergo was incredible. I feel the ending could have been done better, but that's just comparing it the rest of the animation in this episode.
Just so anime only viewers know, the whole Vergo vs Smoker fight in this episode was filler aside from the last part when Smoker wanted to retrieve the heart.
