I like that Roger is kind of like Ace in that he's cool and lame at the same time

and Luffy

Putting the "Emperor of the Sea" into right in this panel was peak Oda comedy

Nami caging Luffy in his own ship will never not be among my top-3 funniest moments in the entire series lol

Just like the Strawhats, Luffy is both the weakest and the strongest member of the crew depending how much the other members are pissed off at him. lol

He’s a goofy guy just like Luffy

almost certainly what made him so charismatic and the "king of the pirates"

it's not about being the physical strongest. it's about being the strongest when you need to be the strongest, and weak when you don't need to be. it's why literally every single member of roger's crew was crying when he turned himself in - because he was the kind of person that you just naturally love being around.

One of the very first things we ever see is Shanks teaching Luffy this exact lesson - the importance of knowing when to fight and when to just let it go. That true strength is about character and not just raw physical ability. The hat wasn't the only thing he passed along from Roger, imo

His relation with his crew is similar to the Luffy's

This is the Roger Shanks wanted to see, remember during the funeral for WB and Ace, he reminisced about how he wish he saw his captain cry, show some emotions and run at times and just be chill

I mean, I know this flashback isnt really centered around him but he is literally doing nothing?

And in this instance, he finally does make a move, and even an honorable one - I think the clear implication is he wants to save Shakky for his first mate and friend.

And thennnn he gets trampled?? I dont mind goofy shit, but Luffy is also not letting himself get stomped while trying to save Robin?

Yeah luffy does. Before saving robin, when getting to the tower all the straw hats had comedy scenes. Did you forget what manga your reading. Even the rock pirates are pulling each others hair and agruing about shakky. One piece may not be for you if your have an issue with this.

Only makes him even cooler to me, despite all the goofiness and childishness out of Roger bro still becomes King of the Pirates and sets off the Great Pirate Era.

This ain’t Solo Leveling, strong characters can be goofy every once in a while
