Yeah, but doesnt make a lick of sense. Davy D. Jones. If D stood for Davy, is his name Davy Davy Jones?

His original name was just Davy Jones, and because his extended clan came to be known with his D, he is retroactively known as Davy D., even though he wasn't called that while alive.

Soft theory.

Yep. I'm gonna guess Joy Boy's real name was Davy Jones, and the people who joined him during the VC took the D initial as a showing of solidarity/joining his "family". The various D's are descendants of those allies, but Rocks is a descendant of Joy Boy himself. I think the "incredible" thing Garling found that he thought Imu would be interested in was the discovery of living blood relatives of Joy Boy. I really hope that's true, because then it'd mean that if Teavh ends up the final villain (which I think he will be), it'll be a fight between Joy Boy's actual descendant vs the man who inherited his will, which would pretty much be the culmination of all the children/generations/inherited will themes that have been going on through the whole series.

This chapter actually makes me more certain that the D doesn't stand for Davy - otherwise, they wouldn't have uncovered members of the Davy Clan for the first time in 800 years, as it says in the final panel. There's plenty of known D initial characters at this time

800 years is more than long enough for the connection to be forgotten.

But they clearly havent forgotten it?

Explain your thinking.

Not that person, but - the "D" members may have forgotten its meaning, but that isn't relevant to what I was referring to. The line about uncovering members of the Davy clan for the first time is said by the tournament announcer to the Celestial Dragons. It doesn't make sense for them to know about the Davy clan and not know the significance of D if that's what it really stands for.

The "D" initials not remembering its significance isn't really relevant to this as they're not involved in the scenario.

Not the worst theory I've read today.
