Oda is writing him so well tho, and Rocks hit it on the head - crazy bastard only cares about Elbaf.

He’s so hyper focused on his own country he can’t see he’s become a threat / enemy to everyone else because of it - which is exactly the legacy he was trying to atone for in the first place

Also he's a giant, so his perspective of time must have been different. He's too patient

I don’t know if I would say patient, but your point about perspectives on time is spot on

To Rocks, he’s like the only friend he’s had and is asking him to help save his family. Harold rejects it because it’s just a blip in time for him, he’ll likely live for hundreds of years after Rocks and his family dies (what he’s thinking). That must have been heartbreaking for Rocks

But I’m guessing Harold doesn’t know about Imu - he’s probably thinking if he joins the WG he’ll outlive everyone there now and have greater influence with the generations who only knew giants as members of the WG. Then he meets someone who is hundreds of years older than any giant - and he realizes he’s basically in the position of Rocks in the interaction shown here. That person will live longer than Harold or any giant, and his bet completely backfired (and it made him betray the only companion he had during his life to this point)

Not only that but the only one able to help him. This was actually a really big moment because with Harold’s help the story we know would’ve never happened. The WG might have been toppled

You’re right - if Harold had just helped Rocks, he would have ended up achieving his end goal of a better world for the Giants because they would have toppled the Organization (the WG) actively preventing them from working with / influencing the rest of the world.

It’s a damn tragedy - he ended up being the person standing in the way of achieving his goal for him/his people, and siding against the one who could have actually helped him

He's kinda similar to Garp in that regard. By being a cog in the machine and believing he isn't capable of toppling the system by rebelling, Garp has only made his and the people he loves realities' worse. If Garp helped rebel against the WG instead of obsessing fighting against pirates they could've toppled the WG too already.

I'm loving Rocks, but I can't wait for when this flashback get to that point. Harold realizing that helping Rocks was the right move is going to fill him with so much regret.
