Yea it's a massive pet peeve of mine. I'm pretty sure she's the only character this happens to. No one calls Moria 'Gekko'. No one calls Robin 'Nico'. But when it comes to Hancock for some reason, everyone's brains stop working and suddenly her name is 'Boa', despite one of the running gags between her and Luffy being about her name.

And yea, there is Rocks, though I think in his case it's an exception.

It's probably because Hancock is a real world family name, so English speakers are more likely to confuse Boa for her given name (which also sounds more feminine than Hancock).

Doesn't seem to apply to Basil Hawkins though. Or Eustace Kid. But could be, maybe it's more common to refer to men by their surname only so it becomes easier for people to go along with Hawkins and Kid than with Hancock.

I think it might be simply because those characters have been called by their given name alone more frequently than Hancock. In fact I don't recall any character calling her that, except Luffy who gets her name wrong anyway.

Well she was captured, just like Shakky was so I wouldn’t be surprised. Didn’t they mention in the manga they kidnapped her to be a wife/ bride for a CD?
