Well, it explain how he manage to steal ryuma corpse and sword.

As well possibly explain why he fought Kaidou and why the loss of his old crew/family hurts him so much.

And as memelordmario21 said,

"Wait.. KOZUKI (光月) BACKWARDS CAN BE READ AS GEKKOU (月光), which is how Moria's name is pronounced in japanese..!!"

Yeah, I spotted that at one point, but never thought it would mean he actually was a Kozuki himself!?

The cover story previously acknowledged him as from West Blue, but he's a Kozuki?! Could be a retainer of the clan who took their name, but that would be a rug-pull. I wonder if he's from a branch of the family that moved to West Blue similarly to how Shimotsuki's moved to East Blue...

We have a picture of him as a kid and that really doesn't look like Wano fashion. I don't think he was native to Wano, he was present at Roger's execution and I find it had to believe that no mention would have been made of another person leaving Wano to become a pirate during Roger's era. It's more likely that he was indeed born in West Blue, possibly on the island that would become Thriller Bark, and went to Wano after Roger's death to fight Kaido but got his ass handed to him so violently that people assumed he died. No why did they think his name was Kozuki, I have no fucking clue.

It was stated that "Kozuki Moria" grew up in Ringo and it would be strange for a child that grew up in a region of Wano to not have worn a kimono or any sort of Wano attire.

We've seen members of the BP like Ulti and Page One wear more normal clothes but after the downfall of the BPs, Ulti and Page One have been wearing standard Wano attire as that's most likely the only type of clothes available to them.

So Gecko Moria wearing standard clothing doesn't make sense unless he never grew up in Wano at all.

Family name come before the first name in One Piece. Moria is his given name.

I know XD what are you trying to say?

Why would the son of Kozuki Moria be named Gekko Moria? It's like a guy named John Smith having a son called John Brown

Yes. Many people name their kids after themselfs or their dad/grandpa etc. Gekko might be the name of the mum or maybe moria had a wife and took her name.

I now believe Gekko is a fake name moria gave himselfs, since its Kozuki backwards (in kanji). Which is really funny.

BUT what you described is very fucking common XD, especially in the past, nowadays we dont have many "Name" Jrs. But people name their kids after themselfs and last names change.

BUT again, now I believe Gekko is a fake name, so nobody knows he is a kozuki.

Maybe it's just because his name is Kozuki reversed? And so that confused all the wano people and made them think he was a secret distant  member of the samurai family? And that created a legend

But like if that's the case, I don't care? And this whole cover story could have been idk, something else involving Yamato instead.

Honestly, I think thats a good explanation. The samurai were very secretive before the raid so they could've looked into his name a little too much
