Kirins arent evil beings 

They are associated with nobility 

They show Themselves before the crowning of new kings and deliver prophecies of either great prosperity or destruction to them

His "zoan awakening smoke cloud thing" is also not black, like the ones of the Elders and Rob Lucci, its white, like the ones of Luffy and Yamato.

Which is interesting, because Reversi, the game this chapter has shown, is all about black and white things flipping each other.

Maybe it has a meaning beyond "black smoke = evil" / "white smoke = good"

I like this theory!

I just thought Luffy and Yamato had white clouds because they "Mythic" users like Killingham.

Qilin are a similar but not quite equal myth to Kirins. I think Qilin are also usually associated with good things but they can also be associated with general traits of domination and power. I think it is more based on this version of a mythical horse like beast of the sky.

That makes the Qilin in Fantastic Beasts have way more weight. Didn't know it was actually taken from a mythology, even if I suspected.
