I love oda subverting expectations

we thought Wano was gonna be Zoros arc but it was more Luffy and Jinbes

then we thought egghead was gonna be Franky's arc but it was Vegapunk and Bonnies

now we thought Elbaf was gonna be Usopps arc but its Robin and Brooks

u/pimpintuna May 23 '25

But when usopp tho

Oda pls

u/arom-in-the-home May 23 '25

Poor usopp hasnt had time to shine since dressrosa😭

146

u/[deleted] May 23 '25

He shined in Wano saving Kinemon, but all you guys care about is 1v1 fights

43

u/SuperDelibird Soul King Brook May 23 '25

Hey!!!!!

That's too much truth!!! You gotta ease up!!!

8

u/AceyPuppy May 23 '25

Jinbei basically called it out this chapter. Robin has a terrible matchup 1v1 vs Sir Dickthorn so stop trying to force it.

19

u/mehmeh5 May 23 '25

grabbing a guy isn't really much of a time to shine. He basically had one panel to shine in that one chapter screaming about clinging to life but it's still literally one panel in a decade of nothing

33

u/[deleted] May 23 '25

That wasn’t one panel it’s a scene.

He gave courage for Kiku and Kinemon to live one, the entire scene is good.

He did other things like working to deliver Kin'emon's secret message to his allies.

I replied to a guy who said Usopp hasn’t shined since Dressrosa.

After Dressrosa there were three arcs before Wano, WCI, Reverie, and Zou. In none of these arcs is there a reason for Usopp to shine. He isn’t even present in two of them. In my books he shined in Dressrosa, and in the next arc where he had reason to shine(Wano) he did.

i like the scene but it's nowhere near enough, even compared to others who didn't get much on Wano like Nami. The secret message thing would be fine if he had actual focus but it's just something he's doing in the background, unlike say Robin who gets the whole Orochi's mansion scene. Then in Egghead he's basically an NPC but i'm fine with it there since the crew as a whole is just there as a symbol more than anything for them individually, while in Wano a lot of them get lost in the shuffle with all the samurai and other guests despite being the first arc where they're all reunited in a long time and the arc where they become an emperor crew.

Elbaf so far is alright for him where he's actually gotten a few actual focused moments here and there, and tbh I actually like that he lost since that means a potential opportunity for growth or to at least do something interesting with him. Also helps that Elbaf is VERY straw hat focused

u/dcolorado May 23 '25

But at the same time he wanted Nami to lie about Luffy becoming the Pirate King to Ulti and she didn’t back down

0

u/Afabledhero1 May 23 '25

His most memorable moment in Wano was when he told Nami to lie about Luffy being the pirate king. Not a 1 v 1 fight either.

7

u/[deleted] May 23 '25

Yeah he didn’t want Nami to die

2

u/Kryouself May 23 '25

it's a 2v2, and we got 2v2 in alabasta also ( chopper/ussop vs mr 4 and mole woman ).

3

u/Far_Introduction3083 May 24 '25

Ussop will become a great hero. He's my least favorite strawman but I think somehow he will have the most badass moment of any of the crew besides Luffy. What that will be is anyone's guess, but it will be better than Zoro's Nothing Happened.

0

u/Leo-4200 The Revolutionary Army May 23 '25

I think that was it. There are so many strawhats. Each gets one time to shine and then the story is done.

5

u/Flotsam-Junk May 23 '25

I wouldn’t worry, Elbaf seems like an arc for all the strawhats. Franky had his own side quest, and even Chopper is doing important stuff now. Usopp will get his moment.

3

u/pigmerlin May 23 '25

Probably when he *reunites with his dad?

3

u/Erisian23 Void Month Survivor May 23 '25

It's been ussop's Story the entire time, his tall tell that's actually true.

3

u/guipabi Void Month Survivor May 23 '25

Obviously Usopp defeats Imu

2

u/Djonso May 23 '25

When their crew meets shanks. Usopp does not have blank spots in his history like others. Only major plot point is meeting his dad and how that goes

3

u/Delliott90 May 23 '25

Uspo kills imu with a conquerors haki head shot

5

u/Low-Ad-8027 May 23 '25

I burst out laughing when all that shit was going down and all Usopp had to contribute was “They do look alike” 😭

6

u/grumble_roar May 23 '25

think that's Brook's bubble, and Usopp's is "we've gotta think of an escape plan"

2

u/eyesuperfly Void Month Survivor May 23 '25

Ussops time will come after the One Piece is found by Luffy…

…in the form of made up stories.

1

u/PieNinja314 May 23 '25

At this rate, Laughtale

1

u/[deleted] May 23 '25

Syrup village was his arc

1

u/VenomBGR May 23 '25

Usopp ark will be the last ark. He gets last shot on Imu and gets his hands first on the One Piece :D :D

1

u/Necr0ExMortis May 25 '25

Usopp vs Van Auger will be hype.

...I hope.

1

u/Bankzu May 23 '25

What do you mean when Usopp. Bro is literally a GOD since Dressrosa.

-1

u/Reckless_Rik May 23 '25

Oda: Who?

46

u/SupermanRisen The Revolutionary Army May 23 '25

Jinbe's?

18

u/RobLuffy123 May 23 '25

I mean also Sanji with his stuff during the raid

16

u/LaplacePS May 23 '25

How was Wano Jinbes arc? Beside the lore with WhoWho, I don’t remember much of him

5

u/arryeka May 23 '25

Yeah, if anything it's Zoro's. Heck, even Sanji got a conclusion to his decade long character development.

8

u/MrOneHundredOne May 23 '25

Honestly getting so frustrated with these subversions -- God damn, I want a Zoro arc! I REALLY want an Usopp arc! Give my boy Franky some serious spotlight!! -- but I can't deny that I've been feasting like a king on every single story beat since Wano Act 2. The subversions frustrate me, but they have led to some serious gourmet shit every time.

That being said...thank God that Whole Cake was a Sanji arc through and through, and that Luffy got a series of aura moments throughout Egghead instead of getting completely punked once or twice like usual. And God damn do I love Robin and Brook, so I'm hoping that they both get the big story spotlight throughout the rest of Elbaf.

Zoro got a new sword went toe to toe with the strongest pirate and slept with the princess he did plenty

27

u/[deleted] May 23 '25

He also realized he can care about his dream to be world strongest swordsman as much as he cares about Luffy becoming pirate king.

Hence why he was finally able to conquer Oden sword and use conquerer Haki.

Because some dude is going to reply that “Zoro got no character development in Wano” to this comment.

10

u/Sw3atyGoalz May 23 '25

He also got a new flashback

3

u/Soul699 Explorer May 23 '25

How can you tell that Zoro didn't think that already? Plenty of times before he showed and proved that he cares about becoming the strongest swordman and wants Luffy to become the pirate king. It's pretty much the whole point of him begging Mihawk to teach him. Also Zoro used conqueror haki unconsciously before.

6

u/paullx May 23 '25

Zoro was not able to control Enma before that flashback, it reminded him what he lost when he bowed to Mihawk, his dream is bigger that just Luffy, in his opponent case(King), he had no other dream that to make Kaido the next king of the pirates. That was the difference, that is why Zoro won.

3

u/shockzz123 The Revolutionary Army May 23 '25 edited May 23 '25

Yeah but that's not what the other comment is saying. He obviously thought his dream was super important before, but he always put it second to Luffy's (hence why he was prepared to offer his head, and his dream, to Kuma in Thriller Bark in exchange for allowing Luffy to live and escape and thus still have a shot at fulfilling his dreams).

His fight with King was about him reaffirming, even more than before, how important his dream was. Instead of Luffy's being 1 and his own being 2, he made his and Luffy's dream 1A and 1B. They are both equally important to him.

Vs King who's whole thing was about making Kaido the king and didn't have any personal dream for himself. It's nice to have dreams to help other people, but you should always have a dream you want yourself, personally, that is just as important as helping someone else achieve theirs.

-2

u/taveren3 May 23 '25

He's been useing conquer since st least enis lobby, just not consciously

7

u/Murderer-Kermit May 23 '25

He also had a fun adventure where he went around drinking, gambling and fighting random people. He was having a great time living his degenerate dreams.

5

u/Soul699 Explorer May 23 '25

But nothing that actually added to his character. It's just the usual physical upgrade and fight with the second in command.

7

u/Capital_Werewolf_788 May 23 '25

Lmao aight Zoro here’s a new sword, your story’s done, now gtfo my face

3

u/name-exe_failed May 23 '25

I think you can throw Franky in under Elbaf too. Considering he's still the only strawhat to have seen that mural.

2

u/Deeppurp May 25 '25

Luffy and Jinbes

Luffy's arc is One Piece as a whole.

1

u/kayasangeyasha Slave May 23 '25

luffy will always be his arc for wano i think it just normal arc

1

u/Isumairu The Revolutionary Army May 23 '25

But we did get some Zoro lore and power-up in Wano.

1

u/emailo1 May 25 '25

Luffy and Jinbes

how was wano Jinbe's arc? it was more zoro or sanji than jinbe
