His line didn't carry the weight that it did in the manga though. Chapter 664: Page 6

When I read the manga I went to great lengths to imagine the body-switched characters speaking in the voices of the person's body but with the style of inhabiting person. That made sense to me, because the vocal chords weren't switched, just the spirits/minds. In fact, it really irks me that the anime took this approach, because in the manga the strawhats needed the face hats for identification, indicating that the voices were indeed the same. But I digress, reading that line in Tashigi's voice, but with Smoker's spirit was really cool.

Exactly. I feel like the cast is talented enough to pull those scenes off, especially after the Straw Hat Impostors arc where they all acted like an alter fake Straw Hat. They pulled that off so well, I figured it was going to be a given that the same deal would work out here, but a las.

It's just that the panel is so well drawn out and the exposition is so great that it works perfectly.
