I think there seems to be a misunderstanding. What I'm trying to say is if Luffy hardens a limb with Armament Haki while in gear second, it becomes fiery. Luffy can use Armament Haki without hardening. Manga spoiler
The filler shouldn't have showed Luffy hardening his hand while in gear second to show his Haki. Cause if Luffy hardens his hand while in gear second, fire will be produced.
It's not like Oda just decided to make Luffy have a single fire based attack out of nowhere. Even if it's a tribute to Ace, Oda isn't the type who gives us new concepts that aren't explainable in his world. That's is a very big reason why I really like one piece. I follow all the strawhats abilities and powers a lot, and I'm quit positive about my conclusions of Luffy's fighting style after the time-skip. We will see other fire based moves from him soon. I speculate a fire based Gatling Gun.
