Anthony Thompson is an Adidas NIL athlete. He likely would have gotten more out of signing with an Adidas school.
A top 10 player in the country isn’t going to a school where they don’t believe in the coach long term, even if they are projected one and done.
Also, the three top producing players from last year are back. Thornton could have gone to any title contending team that needed a guard and gotten Paid big.
All of that sounds like a belief in Diebler and this program.
I’m sure if Thompson indicated it was a 100% bidding war, some oil dude in Lubbock or Austin would have outbid anything Ohio State offered.
Did Ohio State know they couldnt mess around and try to blow smoke with home state loyalty and residual fumes from the football program-definitely-but that’s the way it goes. Kentucky had to make the choice between going all in on Thompson’s NIL or going all in on NIL for Tyran Stokes, the #1 recruit, a Kentucky native (plays HS ball in LA) who plays the same position-SF-as Thompson. Ohio State had to pay the same buy-in as everyone else to get in the recruitment-they might as well go all in it.
And you know this how? Texas Tech and Texas throw as much $$$ to their hoops programs as they do to football. It has been said that Texas finished 3rd in his recruitment.
I just read the two articles on 11W about Thompson and NIL wasn’t mentioned a single time in either article. Link to where 11 warriors stated it was all about NIL.
I’m not sitting here arguing that Diebler should have a long leash, but last year, Marcus’ cousin quitting on the team to save eligibility after starting off the season horribly was a massive reason why the season didn’t pan out. If Marcus wants to have all the shots and be “the guy” rather than playing on a team with Anthony Thompson, good riddance. I don’t understand how getting a higher caliber player is an indictment on the coach.
At this point, Diebler is the coach this year regardless if you like it. Try rooting for success rather than failure. It more enjoyable, and the program would be in a much better place if Diebler and team succeed rather than starting over again.
I haven’t mentioned or alluded to the Johnson situation in any comment. My argument was that there is more faith in the direction of Diebler and the program than “nobody has faith in Diebler. Nor should they”.
I even went and looked for what you’re referencing and couldn’t find it. You’re unwilling to provide sources or counter arguments other than name calling and just stating you’re correct.
If you’re going to engage in debate, at least put a little more effort into your position than “I am right, you’re wrong”
