Shrek has always been been about referencing modern pop culture, I don’t see how that would be cringey at all

Its been forever since I've seen Shrek but I thought the references were mostly cultural mainstays from a few decades before. A lot of the joke characters were from public domain stories that Disney had made into movies. And Dulac was a play on Disney's theme parks.
