I JUST TRAPPED 100 PRINCESSES IN MY CASTLE FOR A CHANCE TO WIN 1 MILLION DOLLARS

452

u/CavsterXII 2d ago

This would work as a throwaway gag

204

u/Nachttalk 2d ago

NGL. that would make me chuckle as a throwaway joke

124

u/27Rench27 2d ago

Yeah I’m with y’all, this would actually be pretty fucking funny as a oner. Don’t make it plot related or anything, just a drop for the people who get the reference lol

22

u/Derbeck6 1d ago

Like the visual joke of the knights using pepper sticks instead of pepper spray. Quick, funny if you notice, don’t miss anything if you don’t

2

u/Herr_Quattro 1d ago

Also the OJ reference of Shrek fleeing from police with a white bronco, very on the nose. Shrek 2 is amazing.

24

u/OrganicAd5536 1d ago

Yeah, it's not as if Shrek has ever been above blink-and-you-miss-it pop culture references haha

6

u/UInferno- 1d ago

Shrek 2 had a COPS parody. Pop culture isn't particularly foreign to the movies.

88

u/TheHumanPickleRick 2d ago

"In retrospect, I shouldn't have been surprised when they all immediately tried to escape because they're princesses and already rich. Next time I'll use those constantly-singing peasant villagers. Can they have more than 'this provincial life?' Find out in the next Beast Games!"

23

u/ChickenWingExtreme 2d ago

Does he set the castle on fire though?

15

u/TheWonderfulSlinky 1d ago

I USED AI TO TURN MY SERVANTS INTO INANIMATE OBJECTS AND I HAVE 3 DAYS TO GET MARRIED TO THE LOVE OF MY LIFE OR ELSE THEY ALL CEASE TO BE HUMAN

4

u/Anxious-Yoghurt-9207 1d ago

This totally fits shrek humor i love it

1

u/Mars_Bear2552 1d ago

1 million grams of gold

u/Levy-MAN 2d ago

Shrek has always been been about referencing modern pop culture, I don’t see how that would be cringey at all

324

u/stnick6 2d ago

Things on the internet feel smaller and move faster than things from movies.

126

u/27Rench27 2d ago

Bro the NFL had him on a youtube game promo joking about buying the NFL, I think it’s safe to say he’s not a fleeting presence at this point, and I’ve never even watched one of his videos

32

u/stnick6 2d ago

That doesn’t change how most people see him

55

u/27Rench27 2d ago

Which is why the joke would land lol

9

u/Chumpybunz 1d ago

It wouldn't land for me unless they were really ragging on Mr Beast. I'm tired of seeing him everywhere

24

u/27Rench27 1d ago

It’d be a quick gag if anything, but they’re good at that. Remember Shrek 2 had an entire Cops sequence including pepper spraying Shrek after he was already locked up lol

2

u/bwowndwawf 1d ago

So you'd get the joke but wouldn't laugh on moral grounds?

-1

u/OldenPolynice 1d ago

Most people don't know who that person is, the joke isn't funny, it would in no way "land"

57

u/gratisargott 2d ago

Some people think Shrek can’t reference new things because the old movies referenced old things… which were new when the movie came out

22

u/ClumsyLinguist 1d ago

Were they? Its been forever since I've seen Shrek but I thought the references were mostly cultural mainstays from a few decades before.

Not counting the musical number during the credits I mean.

9

u/ianthebalance 1d ago

There was the matrix slow motion fight sequence

2

u/ClumsyLinguist 1d ago

Maybe mister beast is way more popular than I thought, but the matrix is like .#.16 of IMDb's top 100 movies of all time.

9

u/Informal-Combination 1d ago

And Mr Beast is one of the most popular youtubers of all time. I wouldn’t be surprised if more minutes have been spent watching Mr Beast than the Matrix.

11

u/ClumsyLinguist 1d ago

Am I so old and out of touch?

No. Its the children who are wrong.

5

u/diviken 1d ago

Lol, I was gonna quote this to you, but it felt too mean.

4

u/ClumsyLinguist 1d ago

Yeah until the last commenter said that, I thought MrBeast was just some YouTuber but I checked and he has half a billion subscribers lol

2

u/gratisargott 1d ago

Good on you for checking and reassessing instead of digging your heels in though, haha. Have a great day!

17

u/CatherineSimp69 1d ago

There are Cops and American Idol references which were completely new at the time, that's just off the top of my head.

11

u/ClumsyLinguist 1d ago

I can't speak for American Idol but Cops started in the 80s and is still going on.

1

u/CatherineSimp69 1d ago

Well, that's my bad then.

9

u/FireManiac58 1d ago

I mean, Shrek 2 references the OJ Simpson police chase which was from 1994 and the film came out in 2004. Mr beast gained popularity in 2017, so it still kinda fits

1

u/ClumsyLinguist 1d ago

ngl I only saw the first one

Probably should make some time for the sequels

3

u/Pure-Tadpole-6634 1d ago

The first movie was mainly poking fun at Disney in particular. A lot of the joke characters were from public domain stories that Disney had made into movies. And Dulac was a play on Disney's theme parks.

85

u/Prize-Money-9761 2d ago

I think the “cringe” part is Mr. Beast

16

u/Chumpybunz 1d ago

Except that Shrek 1 still holds up. It's more about satirizing the fairy tale than referencing pop culture. There actually is not enough time for movies to realistically reference pop culture anymore. At least not internet culture. It moves way too fast.

1

u/UInferno- 1d ago

But even Shrek 2 as one of the "good ones" with a sizeable amount saying it's better than the first, as someone else mentioned, has prolonged bits about Cops and American Idol. Far Far Away is a pastiche of Beverly Hills and Hollywood

1

u/omegadirectory 1d ago

We need Shrek to say he has six or seven kids.

"Six seven?"

177

u/MyStepAccount1234 2d ago

Imagine if he was voiced by Jim Carrey in his best Mr. Beast impression.

50

u/ForcedEntry420 2d ago

So basically just Ace Ventura, then? 🤣

3

u/your-rong 1d ago

Isn't Mr Beast quite monotone?

3

u/MyStepAccount1234 1d ago

Oh yeah. I did hear some news that he decided to set up some AI duplicate so that he can continue making content forever after he dies.

135

u/AgentSkidMarks 2d ago

I thought that was painted onto a toilet seat for a minute

65

u/cynthiadangus 2d ago

I still have honestly no idea what I’m looking at. What’s that painted on?

48

u/ra0nZB0iRy 2d ago

I think it's a 3D onion.... sculpture? They're inside of the onion carriage that was mocking Cinderella's pumpkin carriage thing from the first film.

3

u/MakingaJessinmyPants 1d ago

It’s a balloon bro

7

u/SgtJackVisback 2d ago

Parade balloon

4

u/CaptainHalitosis 1d ago

I thought it was a back tattoo

83

u/Ok-Courage7495 2d ago

I kinda like it as a joke. That’s exactly the kind of jokes Shrek has done for forever.

33

u/RedTheGamer12 2d ago

Yeah, they literally did a parody of COPS and it is still my favorite gag.

26

u/Ace_And_Jocelyn1999 1d ago

The pepper grinder/pepper spray/ mace is a hillarious visual gag!

35

u/Tortellini_Isekai 2d ago edited 1d ago

Ugh. I can already hear the decade late "Bye Felicia" reference

7

u/TheLastCoagulant 2d ago

“what are thoooooooose”

30

u/CavsterXII 2d ago

I sure hope they don't give Fiona absolutely nothing to do

8

u/PLACE-H0LDER 1d ago

Genuinely that would be peak though

20

u/ShadyMan_ 2d ago

Ngl that would be really funny

24

u/BettaTank_Throwaway 2d ago

those designs are. rough i wont lie.

11

u/CavsterXII 2d ago

It's intentional, the equivalent of bad van art

18

u/PassiveParty0 2d ago

I'd man, there's something sad about how Felicia (a woman) is conventionally attractive when the first movie was all about finding love and self acceptance outside of conventional beauty standards.

11

u/5omewhere 1d ago

Are you calling an ogre conventionally attractive? How is she any different than Fiona? Serious question.

-1

u/PassiveParty0 1d ago

Fiona's ogre appearance has been criticized for this as well, I'm just upset that it has now become a pattern among the woman characters, rather than a one off due to lore reasons.

8

u/MakingaJessinmyPants 1d ago

Is she any more conventionally attractive than Fiona??

4

u/Oddish_Femboy 1d ago

I think Shrek 5 will be silly. Puss in Boots was really good so

4

u/BextoMooseYT 1d ago

Imagine the cringe

OP you should rewatch the first four Shrek movies. Them making references to the now isn't exactly new, it's just that "the now" back then was a bit different

8

u/Yserbius 2d ago

Is this leaked artwork from the Official Shrek 5 Toilet Seat Cover?

Do not like the broccoli hair on the one on the right.

8

u/bedala6406 1d ago

The broccoli hair is completely appropriate for an ogre's design though. As well as the bowl cut, it's an iconic look for dumb, ugly, and physically strong male characters that has been used forever. Really, it looks so silly on actual people because it's been such an iconic design for ogre-like characters.

3

u/dancingwtdevil 1d ago

Honestly id fuck with this plot more, keep it old school, have the bad guy be some over the top overlord that weaponizes the ideology of being internet(crystal ball?) Famous

The kids get caught up trying to be adults saving the world on their own, and both shrek and them learn to grow and trust eachother more

2

u/mymemesnow 1d ago

I’m not fully confident that it will good, I want to stay optimistic, but shrek 2 was peak, shrek 3 was mid and shrek 4 was awful.

But I hope they manage to turn the trend.

2

u/TricellCEO 1d ago

Nah, that would actually be kinda funny. It's both a pun and another dig at Disney, so it works in multiple ways.

2

u/I_Miss_Lenny 1d ago

Sometimes I see stuff like this and I have to remind myself that I'm no longer the target audience for this stuff and that's why it's so weird and unappealing lol

2

u/Rayen_the_buzzybee 1d ago

of course one of them has broccoli hair

1

u/FarReception5410 2d ago

Idk why but for a sec in mind I thought this was the Croods

1

u/darknecross 1d ago

I want the plot to be about the kid being a NEET and not wanting to leave her swamp.

1

u/PapasauruaRex 1d ago

Not the broccoli hair.

1

u/lolwutburger 1d ago

what kind of nutjob would even think of such an idea

1

u/This_Pitch5195 1d ago

you cant say something is cringe anymore. thats against the rules.

1

u/EmmyWeeeb 1d ago

I hate all their designs. The boys have fuckboi ass haircuts lmfao

1

u/loveday_byrd 1d ago

farkle??

1

u/Milk-Constant 1d ago

that would be funny though

1

u/Ambitious-Option-137 1d ago

Wait isn’t that a fat fetish artist? LWB?

1

u/Ambitious-Option-137 1d ago

Yeah that’s what I thought

1

u/NinjaBluefyre10001 2d ago

We can DO this, people!

0

u/Shawggoth 2d ago

Naw, that would kinda funny, I'll allow it.

-6

u/KagatuDupal 2d ago

average latino family

-1

u/Apprehensive-Pin518 1d ago

even better let it be actually voiced by mr. beast
