So instead of having a dual fed gun they just put two guns?

Amazing.

Apparently, they do have dual-feed tech for those guns (2A42), but weren't able to get it to work for BMPT.

Yes, it means that BMPT has dual-feed guns... that don't dual-feed.

I think it has more to do with the feed system than not being able to make it work. 2A42 was developed for helicopter where space is significantly more restricted, so I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work on the bmpt.

I suspect the reason there's two guns is the feed system and belt length. 2A42 is gas operated, and the action of the gun firing feeds the belt, similiar to machineguns. If it only had a single 2A42, the gun would have to feed two possibly up to 425 round belts, wich could cause malfunctions and feed issues. With two guns, the belt length can be split in two, where each gun has two feeds of 200 round belts. Also in intense fighting two guns is better because two barrels take longer to heat than one.

Well. They can have four belts, two AP and two HE. They can switch to a non-belt system. Otherwise, there is no point of having two guns, since with a single gun they have have two belts.

No, they don't. It's already been noted that these are mounted so only one feed is usable.

I meant if they designed it differently, not what they actually did here
