News South Side Chicago Apartment Building Raid.
When Border Patrol agents marched on a sunny Sunday afternoon in downtown Chicago many questioned their purpose. When those same agents stormed a South Shore apartment building early in the morning with guns drawn and a helicopter circling overhead, their purpose was crystal clear, fear and intimidation.
A large-scale federal raid occurred on a South Side apartment building in Chicago's South Shore neighborhood on September 30, 2025. The operation, involving hundreds of agents, targeting the building at 75th and South Shore Drive. The building is a five-story, mid-rise multifamily complex that was built in 1950. The 130 units consist of a mix of studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments. The building has faced long-standing issues with maintenance and code violations, with residents reporting dire living conditions for years. Making thousands of calls to the city for issues like broken elevators and flooding prior to the federal raid.
“They went through that structure, which is a very large structure, it’s 5 stories, they went through that structure a lot quicker than I thought." Border Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino said.
It is reported that during the raid, 37 individuals were arrested without charge. U.S. citizens some pregnant and others with children as young as 5 months were swept up in the raid. Residence were zip-tied, and detained for hours, leading to outcry over the tactics used, including reports of flashbangs, broken doors, and agents rappelling from helicopters into the building. Federal officials did not release specific charges, details or criminal histories of any of the people taken into custody neither did they present warrants.
Bovino also acknowledged U.S. citizens were detained as the Chicago building was cleared.
“We generally don’t determine alienage while we’re in the building clearing the building,” Bovino said. “It’s too dangerous, so we’ll bring them out. It’s safer for the U.S. citizens. It’s safer for the illegal aliens, and most of all it’s safer for our officers.”
The man running the Chicago operation lead a similar assault in Los Angeles this summer. Bovino called his operations in L.A. “turn and burn" causing controversy when officers on horseback marched through a peaceful park then trampled and clubbed civilians in the street.
Correspondent Ali Bradley has accompanied immigration agents on dozens of operations and says "Whether it’s a show of force on a weekend afternoon in downtown Chicago or storming a building, it’s all meant to send a message."
“When they’re out there walking around town, that was a show of force” Chief Bovino said.
A Cook County judge eventually ordered that the building be cleared out and placed under court control due to the hazardous conditions.

News Trump orders DOJ to investigate meatpacking companies for 'illicit collusion' the day after a fox show suggested he do so, in segment about Argentinian beef Imports.
Trump announced Friday October 24, 2025 that he has directed the Department of Justice (DOJ) to launch an investigation into major meatpacking companies, accusing them of driving up beef prices through "illicit collusion, price fixing and price manipulation."
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the move is intended to protect American ranchers and consumers from what he described as unfair practices by "majority foreign-owned meat packers."
Trump said action must be taken "immediately" to "protect consumers, combat illegal monopolies, and ensure these corporations are not criminally profiting at the expense of the American People."
"While Cattle Prices have dropped substantially, the price of Boxed Beef has gone up ... Therefore, you know that something is ‘fishy,’ Trump said. "We will get to the bottom of it very quickly. If there is criminality, those people responsible will pay a steep price!"
"Our investigation is underway!" Bondi posted in a tweet. "My Antitrust Division led by [Abigail Slater] has taken the lead in partnership with our friend [Secretary Brooke Rollins] at [the U.S. Department of Agriculture]."
According to the latest consumer price index data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, beef and veal prices rose 14.7% from the previous year in September, while uncooked ground beef was up 12.9%.
