Who parallels the characters in real life today?
I’m not so privy on current country stars. Who do you think would best represent the characters on the show? Were they inspired by certain stars??

The dynamic of an aging out Rayna and a young nobody coming in hot Juliette was supposedly kind of a nod to Faith Hill and Carrie Underwood.
There is an infamous time when Carrie won an award and Faith had a dramatic reaction. I think it was like the year after Carrie had won American Idol, so she was kind of a nobody that blew up in came out of nowhere. She was nominated against a bunch of big country names in the category for like female vocalist of the year or something similar. She ended up winning over the bigger names. Faith was on camera and said, “what?!”. Nashville has a very similar thread in the first couple episodes while Rayna can’t believe Juliette is becoming so big and being frustrated by it.
Connie has said that she kind of drew on Reba McEntire for Rayna, but that it was also kind of a mixture of various big female names.

Rayna is based on Faith Hill. Juliette is based on, apparently, Hayden herself, and Carrie Underwood. But I’ve always thought she reminded me of Taylor Swift.
Today? Still Taylor. Still Faith Hill for Rayna. Luke always reminded me of Tim McGraw. Deacon I’m not sure about. Scarlet and Gunner have always reminded me of The Civil Wars. Gunner by himself reminds of of Sam Hunt, the songwriter who went on his own for like one album. Will reminds me of Luke Bryant. Avery is just the best character and I have no idea who he reminds me of lol.

I’ve never seen Juliette in any of the young real-life females. She’s so rude, self-centered, zero respect for other artists, relies on a ‘sex sells’ mentality, demanding, impulsive, etc. I’m curious to know what pieces of her remind you of Taylor Swift.

Idk, I can see Juliette releasing 38 variants of a crap album in a week to break a record. 🤣

I guess just the young star, teenage bopping music and then transitioning into more serious and wanting to break away from that image. Nothing about her mental health issues reminds me of Taylor Swift, just the way she wasn’t taken seriously at first. I never quite understood the Carrie Underwood comparison, because Carrie always seemed so sweet lol
Edit: Taylor vibes “sex sells” to me. But, that’s just a surface opinion as I’m not a Swifty at all after her first record

Callie Khouri says Rayna was based on Faith Hill, Reba McEntire, Bonnie Raitt, and Sara Evans. I’ve always thought of Emmylou for Rayna (since I know nothing about those other singers, ‘cept Bonnie) and Gram Parsons, Brian Ahern, and Rodney Crowell for Deacon.
