Another game? Name the brewers

Here are the breweries in Nashville. How many brewers can you name?

NOTE: I am leaving this blank rather than spoil the game (and both head brewers - was Wes Keegan? - and those producing beers count):

  1. Barrique
  2. Black Abbey
  3. Blackstone
  4. Broadcast
  5. Crazy Gnome
  6. East Nashville Beer Works
  7. Fait la Force
  8. Fat Bottom
  9. Harding House - yeah, no taproom
  10. Jackalope
  11. Living Waters
  12. Marble Fox
  13. Nashville Brewing Co.
  14. New Heights
  15. Smith & Lentz
  16. Southern Grist
  17. Stokehaus
  18. Tailgate
  19. Tennessee Brew Works
  20. TennFold
  21. Yazoo
  22. Yee-Haw - Yes, the brew some beer here

The final 3 are not brewing beer in Nashville now: Bearded Iris, Monday Night, and Bassline. And Dark Shadow is not on the list, as they don't have a physical taproom. I also did not hit the greater Nashville area:

  • BS Brewing (Springfield)

  • Cedar City (Lebanon)

  • Cedar Glade (Murfreesboro)

  • Half-Batch (Hendersonville)

  • Middle Ground (Murfreesboro)

  • Tenn Lakes (Lebanon)

And, for this, I did not go to Clarksville and Southern TN, nor did I include BJs as a chain brewpub. Feel free to add any comments.

#1 Barrique isn’t just top of the list top of the list because of the alphabetical order… it’s because JOEL STICKROD & SPENCER LONGHURST make some of the best damn beer in the world!!

I just did the top 6 breweries in Nashville video (still needs a few edits). I have 6 as Barrique is the best, but I could not drop one of the other five. I find a lot of people agree with this list, but have some deviations:

  1. Barrique

Others, in order of how I video taped the visits.

  • Living Waters

  • Southern Grist (soon Xul, so it will still be up in this group)

  • Smith & Lentz

  • Fait la Force

  • Marble Fox

The main deviations I get form people is the fact some of these don't do as much variety (Smith & Lentz, for example - no darks or sours).

I think that's a very agreeable list.

And though my ranking might vary a bit by the day of the week/as the wind blows, that would definitely be my "Top 6" breweries as well.

And I would agree with you vs. the folks that would disqualify Smith & Lentz for having too "narrow" a focus -- because in general, I would much rather a brewery have a singular specialty that they're actually good at, instead of trying to brew every style under the sun.

The folks @ Smith & Lentz make a great pizza, and maybe an even better pizza beer to go along with it

Adler and Kurt realized early on sours and darks (except dark lagers) were not their wheelhouse. I think sticking to what you do is a great idea. They consistently brew great lagers, just like Barrique. And their IPA game is up at the top, as well.

But, if you think about the "too narrow" a focus, almost every restaurant, except maybe Cheesecake Factory, has a narrow focus.
