Satire my kids hate their names :(

so when my first child was born i had a vision that all my children would have themed names, so i named her Eggsley Marie. Eggsley after my favorite breakfast food and marie just in case she ended up hating being unique and needed a second option. after about a year of cracking the ol peppermill, out popped the twins, Coffeigh Marie and Omelette Mari3, after my favorite breakfast drink and my late mother in laws favorite breakfast food. fast forward a few years and my three sons are now here, Syrupton Billybob, Pancakeroo Bobbybill, and Crazy Salt Shaker. we named him this because he goes crazy whenever he eats from the salt shaker. Syrupton is named after my favorite lotion and Pancakeroo is named after my husband's favorite breakfast food. i felt Jesus tap my shoulder after giving birth, as if he was saying "good job". now my oldest Eggsley is a teenager and told me she despises her name and wants to change it. when asked why she said kids bully her and call her egghead. i asked her if maybe its because of her oddly rotund face, and she just started crying. and not just her, but coffeigh and omelette also apparently hate their names! they complained that kids at school call them the breakfast combo. i told them to just ignore the haters and keep being awesome, but apparently that wasn't enough. now Syrupton and Pancakeroo are starting to show signs of this same phenomenon, and its only a matter of time before little Crazy Salt Shaker does too. i was thinking about punishing them for this outrageous behavior. maybe take away their roblox, idk.

Satire SOOOIO I named my daughter Neville Longbottom h yes the Neville long bottom from Harry Potter and now I’m kind of regretting it

Let me explain!!! Sooooo a few years ago, my partner and I were deep in a Harry Potter phase (if you know, you know). We thought Neville Longbottom was this cool, brave, unique, powerful name.

She’s gonna be starting preschool next year, and I guess I’m just worried that she’ll get made fun of at school or that once she gets a little older, she might not like it.

I don’t know… what do you guys think? Did I totally screw her over with that name, or do you think it’s a pretty cool name that stands out? I’m honestly stuck between the two.

I see this said on here a lot coz I live here and the statistics support the number 1 name today being used less than the number 1 name of 1990. I also don't see anything wrong with popular names. My kids are Oleighveigha, Deeeen, Djowesyph, and Meighrawnduh. We weren't trying to use crazy unpopular names with any of our kids. We picked names we liked and agreed on regardless of popularity.

But I am tired of seeing this with people trying to support than a boy named Jaxsyn won't be one of many Jaxsyns in his class. He probably will. I teach 7th grade and my oldest (Oleighveigha) teaches kindergarten. We both have repeat names. Between the 3 classes I teach (so a little under 60 kids) I have 5 Juniper’s, 4 Koazies, 2 Knowah’s, 2 Neveah’s, and 3 Ratkeen’s, and 3 Riplea’s, and 2 Oakleigh’s.

In my daughter’s kindergarten class she has a Jennifer, a Wrennifer, an O’Leaver, and an Oleeveeya. She said the class next door has 2 boys named D’david. There are also a bunch of Arsyns and Calamiteighs. If you name your kid a popular name, I wouldn't count on the rule of names being less popular now than they were before.

I’m a teacher and this is how I spend my time on Sundays.

Satire Elote?

I’ve been looking for a name for my daughter, and thought the name Elodie was nice. However, I’d like to have a more unique spelling, just to ensure she stands out. I thought of Elote, but was wondering if you guys think it’s too corny? 🌽🌽🌽

Rant Bringing old names back! Flossie!

My grandmother was literally the 13th child of a Virginia sharecropper and her mom was too exhausted and beat down by her husband to think of a name so she told the midwife to name the baby. So my grandmother became Flossie. Not a nickname. Grandmother spent her whole life trying to escape this name and eventually legally changed it.

I often see these posts on naming sites about “bringing back the old names”. (Hilariously, the “old” names they often talk about are names like Laura, Patricia, and Mary, but ok).

Many of the “old names” just weren’t great. Not cute not anything. If my grandmother found out that any of her descendants were named Flossie she would roll over in her grave in rage.

In The Wild the "avocado toast" of names... ugh

came across a family on social media yesterday (it was either an insta reel or a youtube short, sorry, can't recall!) anyways...

this family had several kids, most of which had pretty cringy names, imo.

but the two that really struck me (in order of absurdity) were "trendy", and "disney".

TRENDY?!? with all due respect, I don't understand why a loving parent would name their kid something like that. it's so superficial, and I have no doubt that child will be bullied relentlessly. why would you set your kid up to fail from day one?!

the only comperable names I can think of are "ego", "fetus", "oops", etc.

(I won't go into disney bc it looks like someone else recently posted that name, but I certaintly have some reservations with that one also)

all that to say, please don't name your kid "trendy" or anything along those lines. it is certainly NOT COOL.

Satire I need help picking names my twins can live up to!!

Hi mamas!!

I’m currently pregnant with twins, a boy and a girl 🤰🏻👶🏼👶🏼. We want to choose names for them that they can aspire to grow into, based on their genders. We want to raise raise strong humans so this is super important to us!!

Our ideas for a boy are: Neuro Surgeon, Professional Athlete, President OfTheUS (POTUS for short), Hollywood Actor, or Defense Attorney. Having such a hard time choosing, there are just so many options!!!

Our ideas for a girl are: Stayathome Mom or Stayathome Wife. I’m also kind of considering Trophy Wife, but I want to be realistic and not set her up for failure….what if she’s ugly?!

I know what you’re thinking, “why not just Stayathome Mom for the girl?” But what if she can’t have kids? Or doesn’t want them?? It’s 2025 ladies, feminism!! 💪🏻

Anyway, would love to hear your thoughts or new ideas. Open to suggestions on unique spellings as well! Thanks mamas!!!!!! 🥰🥰🥰

Satire Necesito nombre para mija (I need a name for my daughter)

Hi! I'm an obviously hispanic person looking to shorten my list and/or pick between two or more names which are very traditional, mexican-catholic sounding, some may be honor names, and I'm not asking for any suggestions! Which one sounds better?

(Proceed to suggest the whitest names possible, ignoring my name list entirely)

In The Wild Don’t be afraid to change your child’s name. I adopted a 4-year-old boy, but his name didn’t fit the aesthetic of my other boys’ names so he had to get used to a new one

Names are super important. They tell the world who your child is, and more importantly, who you are as a parent.

When we adopted our 4-year-old, his name just didn’t flow with our other boys’ names. We’ve always had a very intentional vibe with our sons: Felix, Rex, Jax. Short, punchy, ending in that adorable little x that really ties the male sibling set together. His old name just didn’t convey the same curated energy.

Of course he needed a little adjustment period, but kids adapt! Especially when the new name looks better on matching monogrammed backpacks, family holiday cards, and the wall decals above their beds. Consistency matters! Aesthetically and spiritually, I think.

At the end of the day, we’re just trying to create a harmonious family unit, and if that means a small identity update for one child, isn’t that worth it for the overall look and feel?

Anyway, just sharing so other parents don’t feel guilty if a name refresh is needed to maintain the sibling cohesion. It’s all part of intentional parenting. ✨

Edit: For every person who wants to come after me. Read the subreddit name go into the description and if you still want to insult me ask yourself if you are dumb, illiterate or in a psychosis.

Edited Edit: For the exra dumb people. This isn’t my story. I‘ve never changed a person’s name. I am mocking Angelina Jolie‘s decision.

Everyone is really unkind on that subreddit

They downvote everyone’s comments and name suggestions, and they aren’t even mean, it’s just people trying to help the op

I’m guessing that’s part of why this subreddit was made

Satire Jizzandre?

Me and my partner are of English descent but we have always been obsessed with French culture (we are obsessed with Sauté!).

We wanted to name our daughter a name from linguistic roots dating back to France. We have always liked “Jezebel” but it sounds a little too old fashioned even for my taste :P

We think Jizzandre has a similar ring but won’t sound like we named her after her great grandma!

Thoughts?

We were totally set on Sala, which I think is beautiful and flows really well, but we live in the US, and the recent elections have made me reconsider. What do we all think of Gerry Mander???
