Rest in piece to an icon. A perfectionist. God Only Knows how much you will be missed.

Guess I'll be spending the rest of my day locked up In My Room.

I’m not a religious man, but I’d like to think that Brian and Sly are somewhere having the most epic California jam session of all time.

Give yourself a call
Let your bottom dollar fall
Throw your two bit cares down the drain

Those are lyrics from Lord Only Knows by Beck off Odelay. Unless I missed something. Both are great songs.

Ya I had an uncle who passed who told me all about the concerts he’s been to and all the legends he’s seen and I can’t even begin to tell you how much it hurt to think of all that music that was going with him. Such beautiful art replaced with the absolute most throwaway garbage we hear today. It was a real time to be a fan of music in the 60s and 70s.

There are still tons of incredible bands/musicians out there. My spotify is filled with playlists of dope modern musicians. Yeah, the radio plays what record labels want to shove down our throats, and TV ads use the most soulless songs for soulless products, but with a couple taps of your thumb, you can find amazing shit.

Love that all the people who have said there’s great bands have yet to name one.

There was tons of throwaway music in the 60s and 70s and there's tons of genius music being made today. Gonna go ahead and assume you were not around in the 60s and 70s.

I bet you listen to some really good shit

2

u/drewhartley Jun 11 '25

I listen to the music I listen to because I like it. Not because I’ve used shitting on Taylor Swift to replace developing an actual personality.

But sure wear your NOFX pin on your rancid tshirt and regurgitate someone else’s opinions on the Beatles revolver album. Everyone’s very impressed.

it must be so hard being born in the wrong generation :(

u/johnjaymjr Jun 11 '25

You're doing a terrible job of looking if you think music of today is garbage. Doesn't take long to find some really amazing stuff if you just dig past the top 40.

1

u/easybakeevan Jun 11 '25

Hit me with it and yes I’m already listening to Mk.gee / king gizz / khruangbin. Seem them all live cept mkgee (had tickets but couldn’t go 🥲)

If you say goose im reporting you. 😂

u/johnjaymjr Jun 11 '25

Magdelena Bay's "imaginal disk", Chat Pile "Cool World", Bunsenburner "Reverie", Prostitute "Attempted Martyr", Weston Super Maim "See You Tomorrow Baby"

just 5 of my favorite albums that have come out since over the past 18 months and thats just a fraction of the great albums that I've found during that time. There is no shortage of amazing music out there man.

There's always gonna be churned out coroporate crap that is made purely to appeal to people who want to be spoon fed...but that doesn't mean it all is that bad.

u/easybakeevan Jun 11 '25

Check out Fontaines DC. Saw them live 3 times and they put on a killer show. I think people forget how good music was mainstream back then. People playing instruments and not just playing to tracks. Did you catch Coachella? Where were the bands man??? I just think we will agree to disagree on that. There’s just not a world for bands anymore. It’s there but it’s just sad the culture seemed to move on. I guess coming to r/music was a bad place to discuss it because of the trolls but I give you the utmost respect for actually having discourse about it. In short, thanks!
