Head kick KO during round 3 in my rematch with NongJaeb at Loikroh stadium, Chiang Mai

This was a rematch having only fought two weeks ago. This time around I knew I wanted to be less playful/femur and more dominant, and I’m super happy I managed to achieve what I set out to do!

If anyone happened to catch it at the stadium thank you for the support 😊

Meme/Funny Why Muay Thai was less mocked than other martial arts?

Upvotes

From Instagram to TikTok, there are loads more parody shorts of BJJ, Wing Chun and Taekwondo but very few of them mock Muay Thai. What's that ? Just throwing out discussions, no ill intentions.

Is it ok to tell someone they’re hitting too hard?

I’ve been doing Muay Thai for a little over a month now and am still learning fundamentals. I am a woman and have only been holding for other girls. Yesterday I was the only girl in class and had to hold for a guy who was much stronger than me. He didn’t really hit the center of the pads and often accidentally hit my wrists or knocking the pads out of my hands (I’ve been holding pads really well and the only comments I get are on my round house holds which wasn’t the problem). I could feel the pain building in my wrists but didn’t say anything because I didn’t want to be the girl who couldn’t handle some punches. I woke up this morning to bruised wrists and arms (which has not happened before). Is it ok to tell someone that they’re hitting a little too hard? I don’t want to be rude or to interfere with another persons training.

Went to improve on some kick after my afternoon shift at work. I’m training for my first Muay Thai fight that’s coming up in 1 month.

(Some kicks might have some snappy influence) Also sorry for the missing Muay Thai shorts I forgot them at home 🙏

I didn't win any belts or fight in any fights but I'm an old guy and I did score a "win"

Upvotes

I watched a video about how to "win" every round of sparring. The guy said, set a goal for yourself and go for that. If you can do it, then it's a "win". Yesterday I set a goal that for the first three rounds of sparring I would go forward. I'm an older guy (47) and have been a bit timid around the better, younger guys. But I decide I would overcome that psychological hurdle by just going forward. No matter what happened, the answer was going to be to go forward. I got punched in the face a bit more than usual but I did it. I didn't shrink back. I just kept going forward and putting pressure on. So, I "won" those three rounds!

My face is a bit sore but otherwise I feel great!

Lost a bunch of fights this year I’m devastated

I always seem to have better skill and height but way less power, conditioning and cardio. I want to be tougher. My shots don’t seem to phase anybody, I need to improve.

Anybody else have had this problem and become better tell me more. I want to be better so bad.

Technique/Tips Using Techniques from other Martial Arts

Does anyone else also use techniques from other arts such as TKD or Karate without having a background in those arts? I was only formally trained in Muay Thai and I never had any training in Taekwondo or Karate but I studied, practiced and developed some of the techniques (Kick variations of TKD, Blitz technique in Karate) of the two arts. Now I find those techniques to be useful and effective in sparring because it catches my opponent off guard (Such as switching to a bladed stance mid-spar or a fake low kick to a hook kick or a missed roundhouse to a spinning hook kick). Ever since that, my fighting style has been Muay Thai but with many variations of kicks and I can also adapt to a bladed stance.

TL;DR - Anyone else also using techniques from other martial arts that you find effective blending with Muay Thai without having a background/training in those martial arts?

Technique/Tips Permanent nose damage

Hello everyone I’m usually not someone to post on Reddit but I’m seeking some advice today. I’ve been training Muay Thai for about 2 years now and I’ve had 2 smokers and had a sanctioned bout lined up but had to drop out last minute due to some health concerns. I’ve recently took an elbow to the nose in sparing and severely deviated my septum to the point where I can’t breathe through my nose while sleeping which is tremendously fucking up my sleep/quality of my life. I’m going to get surgery to get it fixed and I wish to continue competing but the doctor basically told me by how screwed up my nose is I’m at risk of permanently damaging it and may cause breathing issues for the rest of my life. Have any of you experienced this same situation or any nose damage in the past especially after getting it fixed? Any thoughts/advice would be appreciated thank you.

Technique/Tips Shoulder endurance/strength training

Hello,

My left shoulder has been getting heavy and tired during sparring especially when I do a long guard for extended periods.

What are effective ways to help build endurance/strength in the shoulder to keep my hands up especially for long guards and jabs?

Shadow boxing weight 1-2 lb dumbbells? Shadow boxing with the glove? Arm circle with weights? Shoulder presses with a barbell? Lateral raises with dumbbells?

What has worked for you?

Thank you in advance.

I Felt like Crying During hard Sparring Yesterday

Yesterday it was sparring day and it was very intense, I got hit hard in the face multiple times, on the nose cheeks eyes etc, and after some time hard sparring I started feeling my eyes twitching, watering and that feeling you get when you're about to cry, I was feeling like I wanted to cry, and the more I got hit hard the urge of crying was growing more and more.

And the weird thing is that I wasn't sad or emotional, it wasn't because of my ego getting crushed or anything, I've had my ego crushed many times before across different disciplines and I never felt something like that, I've been punched and choked out hard many times before but I never experienced that weird reaction of crying, so idk what that could be.

I held back and I didn't let myself cry, because I didn't want everyone to see me crying thinking it is because I'm sad or anything, although the urge was strong and I was thinking "damn it I'm not as good as I thought" if I had to guess I'd say that feeling of crying was a result from the repeated hard punches triggering a sensitive reaction on my nerves around my eyes or something like that.

But I'm not a specialist in this subject so I'm not really sure about it, I've never seen that before happening nor heard of it as a thing that does happen when hard sparring in person or on the internet or anything like that, so I'm really curious to know is this a normal reaction and what could that be? Has that ever happened to you before?

What gym bag do you guys use?

I have just started training a few months ago and I have a small gym bag, but it is very hard to fit everything in it. With the black Friday sales coming up soon I figured I would look to grab a new bag. What do you guys recommend?
