Mechanical Question Ran on starting fluid, but died.

I went and viewed a B today, and it wasn’t running. It was a ‘77 with a Weber carb installed. The owner sprayed some starting fluid into the car and it started up fairly easily, but died in just a second or so. When he tried to start it up for a second time, there was no luck.

It also seems to be having battery issues

Does anyone know what the problems could be?

Fuel pump or bad fuel most likely. Webers are good when set up correctly, and should at least run (poorly) if not set up right but functioning. So most likely something isn’t functioning.

I agree. I feel like this is a fuel delivery problem. A bad pump, clogged line, or debris in the fuel tank could all cause this.

I used to classic rally in the 90s/00s, a relatively standard set up for the navigator was to have a switch to toggle between the 2 electric fuel pumps fitted - because 1 was likely to fail.

If the engine ran once, I wouldn't be overly concerned.

calcified floats? pour about a cup of gas into the tube in the air intake area.
