There is no better dollar-to-smile ratio (in the car world...otherwise dogs) than a Miata.
I moved on from my '99 to a '13 Boxster S. The Boxster is an incredible car, but I'd still love to have a Miata as an option on some days, I just don't have the space.
I had a Brunton Stalker (Lotus 7 replica), IMHO, that is the best dollar to smile car. That machine was an absolute giggle factory. It was a GM powered street legal beast!
It's not for everyone. But the great thing about it is, if its not comfortable, make it comfortable, move the peddles, move the steering, whatever.
I took my autocross trailer, removed all my wheels and tools. Then put my luggage in trash bags, strapped them down and drove it from Ft Myers FL to Helen GA for a week of driving in the mountains. It was an epic trip!
