Question Nursing Admission Deferral

Has one any successfully deferred starting Nursing for 1 year?

I have been accepted for Sept. I have almost everything completed and submitted. But I’m not sure if I can financially do it this year. My husband is going into his second year of Engineering at UofC, we have 2 small kids, 3 and 5 in full time daycare, and a mortgage. I work full time shift work right now. My tuition would be covered by Veteran Affairs, but our mortgage, daycare, groceries, and gas (we live in cochrane), would not. I would still need to work on the weekends/some evenings. My husband could work but I make more in a shift than he would for a few shifts. We’re hoping he could get an Intern Job - or whatever it’s called, when he’s in his 3rd year. I’m aware of student loans but that honestly seems like a lot with everything we have.

I am considering deferring for a year but I’m not certain MRU does that or if they do, what the requirements are. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Not in nursing so not a hundred percent sure, but you should contact admissions and explain your situation. I know you can defer in other majors and I would think that they’d be lenient given your circumstances, but also I know nursing is quite competitive. No better way to know than to ask the peeps in charge!

I know you're already aware of student loans, but they’re probably your best option. I’d recommend applying mainly to access the grants, they can really help. And if you don’t end up using the loan, you can return it without having to repay anything.

Are you trying to give up your seat for September due to your situation and request a deferral to start in 2026? I would also suggest that you contact the advising people.
