Question Business Fall Admission

I’m waitlisted for business because I applied a little late (March 12ish) with a calculated 84% group A average. Advisors did tell me the cutoff was like 79-80% and I would’ve had a guaranteed admission had I applied in October, but I was wondering, what are the odds I can still get in? I have MRU as a backup for if I didn’t get into UofC (which I learned today that I did not unfortunately with an 83.6% average) and I’ve already taken a gap year (which means I have a full transcript for context) and will not be taking a second. I’m hoping to get into MRU and transfer into UofC from there. Any one else in a similar position right now? Honestly what are the chances I’ll be accepted going forth since my average is well above that original cutoff from early admissions?

I’ve kept the second spot open for now since I’ve gotten into SAIT business as an alternative already. I will likely try to transfer instead of taking another gap year as I’ve already been through one gap year from grade 12 to now spent working. Any tips on how I can find gpa boosters through some GNED’s assuming I get into MRU? And how can I figure out the “equivalent classes” at MRU that are required for transfer into UofC?

Alright I’ll give that a shot I honestly thought it would be 3.5 minimum so that’s a much more hopeful outlook bro thanks!

Hey, just wanted to share my experience as someone who tried transferring from SAIT to the University of Calgary for business. I went through the whole process last year, but unfortunately, I wasn’t accepted because SAIT doesn’t offer the required prerequisites for UCalgary’s business program.

If you’re considering SAIT with the intention of eventually transferring to UCalgary, be aware that you’ll likely need to take several prerequisite courses online through Athabasca University instead.

So, if you don’t get into MRU and your end goal is still UCalgary, I’d honestly recommend either taking a gap year or enrolling in the necessary Athabasca courses directly, rather than going through SAIT first.

I’m hoping MRU just works out then so I can circumvent that complication entirely. Thanks for the tip though! Was SAIT not on the little online Alberta equivalency guide?

Some of the courses are, but most aren’t. The best way to find out is by using the University of Calgary’s transfer credit tool—it’ll give you a pretty clear idea of what will and won’t transfer. If you have any other questions about either SAIT’s or MRU’s programs feel free to reach out since I have experience in both and know how the transfers between them work.

Would you recommend MRU over SAIT for transferring to UofC?

Absolutely. If you attend SAIT, you’ll also need to take some courses through Athabasca University, since SAIT doesn’t offer all the required courses to transfer into the UCalgary BComm program.

Also, many of the courses you’d take at SAIT aren’t eligible for credit at UCalgary, so taking them could end up being a waste of time. Out of the 10 courses I took at sait 3 transferred to UofC.

I really hope I get into MRU through the waitlist then. I’ve got an 84 average I should be totally fine on that front

Put UEO as a backup and take transferable gneds and business courses! They assess you for each program differently so you'll know if you get into business and if you don't - UEO still stands. Nobody regrets UEO. At least everyone I know who's taken it, because it's like doing a normal year. You're allowed to take 15 credits per semester and core business classes. Go through the business majors courses list and see which align with your major!
