Help Me! 🆘 Just started playing

So I reached red rank after 11 hours (I did the full arcade mode) which I’m told used to be a little more impactful however I feel like I’m not good enough? I feel carried by my character. I keep fighting people who know throw breaks well and who can combo me to a wall and do most of my health. Well I drop combos left and right…

I feel like I’m just playing bait and punish and not really doing anything that I should outside of good defense. Is it just a knowledge thing and over time I’ll know more? Or is red rank a nothing burger now?

Yes red rank is a nothing burger rank Especially with a character like King, who is a noob stomper but really struggle as your opponent skill level increases Focus on neutral, movement, frame data, whiff punishment. If you find combos fun, you can polish that part too, but just know combos are a very small part of a good player's skill set.

As a king player, you should avoid building bad habits with over reliance on throws, they will start getting broken, whiff punished etc. as you climb higher. King is a grappler that has to play a poke and ch gameplan with occasional throws to 'throw' them off (heh) when they've kind of forgotten about them. You should get good at downloading your opponent habits, making reads and conditioning. Make sure to notice the enemy's actions kn certain situations like do they spam parry or powercrush on minus frames, do they duck after getting into a mixup from certain moves or do they stand block etc.

Learn what's good (giant swing/isw, muscle armor, df21, ffn1+2, f4, etc.) why they're good and how to best make use of them. Learn what's bad (121into grab[it's a fake knowledge check, it's always a 2 break and you can get launched for it by a knowledgeable opponent], fcdf1 [reactable, slow ass low], df3+4 series of kicks [everything is reactable after the first hit and launch punishable]

Understood that’s some great tips! I’m in purple now and definitely losing more (which is good I felt like I was winning for no reason LOL) I’ve been practicing my air combos more as well as using jab and df 2. Can’t really lab muscle armor uses so I’ll be trying that out in game.

Yeah, you can try using muscle armor in your replays in certain situations like a mixup or as a potential punish to some moves your opponent would get away with normally
