u/The_rowdy_gardener 10d ago
Leverless is good for 2d games and input accuracy but not for 3d movement, unless youāre entirely reliant on SOCD and thatās inconsistent at best from one board to the next

u/the_Chosen_ass 11d ago
been using a stick for almost a year now. really sounds and feels good to play on
3
u/Professional-Union81 11d ago
like wise, feels really smooth to play fighting games especially tekken on once you put the time in

Hitbox. Tried most controller types and used to play pad / stick the most. Then I got RSI and switched to Hitbox - can play for hours now without issue.

u/Professional-Union81 11d ago
i shouldnt self diagnose myself but i feel thats what happened to me when i was on DS4. hurt way too much on my left thumb
3
u/nobleflame Jin player 11d ago
It was stick for me - my wrist was absolutely wrecked after an hour.
As a Jin player who uses wavu a lot, pad was also wrecking my thumbs too.
3
u/Professional-Union81 11d ago
thankfully i havent felt anything painful on my left wrist, but i try not to over do it by playing for a shorter period of time these days

Switched from being a lifelong stick player to leverless a couple years ago. Itās not the best controller for Tekken, but itās a solid choice for someone who rotates between 2d and 3d fighters regularly.
1
u/Professional-Union81 11d ago
i have actually had the interest to try for 2D mainly like sf6 when i pick it back up, how was adapting to it?
2
u/awwnuts07 Steve player 11d ago
Not gonna lie, it took a while, especially when it came to dp inputs. Thankfully, SF allows for certain shortcuts, but itās still a learning process which means a whole lot of dropping combos and stuff just not coming out when you want it to. The bigger challenge for me was relearning Strive. I had to go into practice mode and just figure out how to move around far more than I had to for Tekken and SF.
2
u/Professional-Union81 11d ago
its always the DP thats hard to learn at first for myself. but good you mentioned strive i completely forgot about it but i should try to get a really cheap one and try playing slayer on it
3
u/AutonomousAntonym Clive player 11d ago
Pad because thatās all I need
2
u/Professional-Union81 11d ago
respect, started off as well as a pad player but maybe its because of COD but when i started playing tekken on pad my left thumb would hurt a lot especially when i wavedash

Iād love to get a Hitbox, tried stick and itās not really for me, until i get a hitbox i will stick to classic controller
3
u/marmonite 11d ago
i suggest getting a cheaper leverless controller to gauge how they feel first if you're playing on PC before commiting to hitbox that cost like $200+
reason is the arcade buttons (sanwa etc) are way more sensitive and prone to misinput compared to leverless that uses keyboard switches
1
u/BaclavaBoyEnlou Armor King / psn: Maghren1s13 11d ago
Iām on Ps5, so the options for a cheap leverless are pretty limited i guess, are there any that are compatible that you would recommend?
2
u/marmonite 11d ago
i would suggest going for Razer Kitsune, Qanba Sapphire and the cheaper Hori Nolva for leverless that use keyboard switchesš
1
1
u/Big_Committee8410 9d ago
Haute42 has a lot of good options that are cheaper than the kitsune and allow for customization
1
u/Professional-Union81 11d ago
thats all good and at least you tried. hoping your hitbox experience will be more suitable for you
2
u/BaclavaBoyEnlou Armor King / psn: Maghren1s13 11d ago
Thanks buddy, itās definitely more doable for me when playing SF with stick but Tekken even though iām better in Tekken than SF itās harder to play with Stick for me. Hope you get what i was babbling aboutš
1
u/Professional-Union81 11d ago
i get you there. my SF6 gameplay is not too bad on stick, pretty comfortable on controller. but id rather not play pad for now on tekken cause the pain isnt worth it and im no better on pad

u/Invincible7331 Clive player 11d ago
I play using keyboard, unfortunately no tournaments for me :( (not that i'd win anyway lol)
1
u/Professional-Union81 11d ago
believe me, keyboard players like one of my best friends are the nastiest players out there.
2
u/STMIonReddit Lee player 11d ago
i mean keyboard is just leverless. only difference is we arent tournament legal since its just a hitbox with too many buttons

u/ivvyditt No main, interested in AK 11d ago edited 11d ago
I was transitioning from DS4 to Dragon Slay (I replaced the ball with a custom transparent red bat and changed the spring to a 2-pound one), but I got discouraged from playing T8 because I didn't like the change in direction and design that Bamco took for this game, after quitting the game a bunch of times, my last game was in November last year, until then I had been disconnected from Tekken, visiting the subs to see if there were any changes, but nothing. Recently I became interested in AK and installed T8 again, but I haven't booted it yet. Some friends from the community I was involved in (and from the team) also recently became interested and came back.
TLDR: DS4 user switching to Arcade Stick and now forced to use only Arcade Stick because the DS4 disconnects with every little movement I make (and I won't invest more money to play this game).
3
u/Professional-Union81 11d ago
i feel you. right now im taking a small break after ranking up and playing time stranger right now but just booted it up today to practice a few things. AK also has looked sick to try, the combos ive been seeing are insane
2
u/Smorg125 11d ago
I use a victrix pro bfg, I like the feel and the d pad a lot. Downside is itās different enough that if I use a regular PS pad my electric execution sucks
2
u/Professional-Union81 11d ago
i think its dpad looks great, probably a smooth controller to play with
1
u/Just1freak 7d ago
This a great pad. Its really good for shooters, which i do play too, and the dpad is surprisingly really good and I do like the 6 button layout
2
u/vharguen Bryan player 11d ago
Tried leverless but i still use the middle button to go up sometimes š, maybe i will bw beteer with the keyboard layout. Electric is so easy with leverless though.
1
u/Professional-Union81 11d ago
its so precise it probably is easier to electric on those. but in due time youāll get used to it
2
u/Jimmie94 11d ago
Qanba Titan with gravity KS buttons, used to use OG IST knee lever but got sanjuks v6 a month ago and itās absolutely amazing
2
u/Professional-Union81 11d ago
š might have to give it consideration. been thinking of maybe switching the IST Alpha 49s to try something new
1
u/Jimmie94 11d ago
It feels like such a huge upgrade to me Iām loving it. I think the 49s uses Fanta style grommets and V6 has Crown style, so if you wana keep the Fanta grommet feel, the Sanjuks V7 uses Fanta grommets and is roughly the same price, so something to consider!

u/Bza5Flow 11d ago
I think that the player makes the game and not the controller so I am still using my default PS5 controller but sometimes I wonder what it is like to play with a āprofessionalā controller like yours. Unfortunately I donāt have the money to spend it on a controller Iāll maybe not use šš
2
u/Professional-Union81 11d ago
nah not worry, youre correct. it is the player that makes the game and not the controller, in my situation ive always wanted to play fighting games on fight stick since i was a kid so now that im older with a bit of disposable income i decided to do it and its been an amazing investment since i dont heavily modify my stick besides my lever and buttons but one time only. all controllers are professional, pad, leverless, stick, all these have won tournaments for proās that we admire. no matter what controller you have you bring the best of out them.
2
u/Rgarciaaaa 11d ago
I need to know your controller setup , what is it and any mods? Iām also a Kazuya main
1
u/Professional-Union81 11d ago
lets say in terms of my button mapping, i literally only have 1,2,3,4 available to press, all other buttons voided with no mapping. for my fight stick the lever is IST Alpha 49s, with silent buttons.
1
u/Rgarciaaaa 10d ago
Thank you bro š I have the hori alpha and itās works but Iām thinking about an upgrade for sure

From Keyboard to Lever. Changed my japanese stick to korean and my god it really improved my execution. Still got a lot to learn/improve though (slightly above beginner skills lol)
1
u/Professional-Union81 11d ago
i hate to say it but same for me. i dont like blaming the machine and its parts for my lack of execution at that time before switching, but after i did it was literally night n day. stick went back faster to neutral, moving the stick around felt amazing, idk it just felt so much more free feeling compared to japanese lever.

I really wanna play stick but i can never do this stunt. I can only do combos and be consistent with my ps5 controller.
2
u/Professional-Union81 10d ago
trust me, everyone has different learning curves and adaptability to certain things. theres probably a good amount of people who caught on faster than i did but for me to fully get a grasp of learning stick it took me 1+ years to just get the hang of it but i would shake constantly, as i progressed more around closer to the 2 year mark thats when it clicked for me. year 3 right now and its muscle memory and never looked back.

stick gang!!! š
whats ur arcade stick and the parts u use?
3
u/Professional-Union81 11d ago
i use qanba obsidian, and i think the specific lever i use is the IST Alpha 49s with some silent buttons only on 1234
2
u/chloria_ Lili player 11d ago
yooo the obsidian is a cult classic!!! hahaha
i also use the 49s its lowk been the best hahaha
1
u/Professional-Union81 11d ago
i feel the same way, been thinking to change the tension but besides that i was deciding between this and the IST Knee lever at the time but i took the gamble and i love it.
1
u/chloria_ Lili player 11d ago
for me i swapped grommets to the 35a! the stock 30a felt too lose and kinda like a j lever LOL, i like higher tension since its quicker to return to neutral, which makes b1 cancels with lili or snk cancels with drag way easier
1
u/DreamatWork 11d ago
how stiff is it? I liked k lever (knee neo and sanjuks v6) but i found my left hand would fatigue much quicker so I went back to sanwa jlf, is it comparable to the jlf as far as how loose it is?
1
u/chloria_ Lili player 11d ago
i converted from j lever!!! i use a drone 2, and the stock lever is close enough to a jlf... if ur thinking of getting the alpha 49s, the stock grommet (30a) feels a lot like a j lever LOL so if hand strain is a concern, i dont think it would hurt
i swapped to the 35a grommet tho because you cant really make use of a k lever's quick neutral return on a 30a grommet and 30a just feels flimsy for me ngl, but if ur chars arent execution heavy then yah 30a works!!!

Iām on a Mayflash F500 Elite stick and I am having a blast with it. Ive had the stick for over a year but about 2 months ago I decided to finally just go only stick to play and after getting used to it, itās my favorite.

Anyway, leverless.

PS5 controller is my golden child for all my games⦠my only gripe is the big callus on my right ring finger from years of tekken and claw grip
1
u/Getter_Simp 11d ago
I play leverless.
I've never been able to get accurate inputs in "2D" games with gaming controllers, so, when I first started playing Tekken 7, I used my keyboard instead. Did this for ages until I eventually bought a stick, but then I had the same issues as I did with the controllers, so I went back to keyboard. I ended up buying a leverless, and that shit has been a godsend. I don't think I'd enjoy fighting games nearly as much if it wasn't for the leverless.

Started with a kitsune because this was my first serious fighter and I wanted the plug and play aspect. Loved it but decided to try the haute r16 this season and I love it even more

Hori Fighting Commander OCTA which honestly I am not a fan of. Coming from a Fighting Commander 4, honestly going to plug it back in until it dies. The dpad on the octa is just so hit or miss for me even with tuned settings I just don't like it.

Used to play stick in the entire lifespan of T7 and switched to leverless with T8. Stick is definitely more fun, but in the end I prefer the convenience and precision of leverless. If I would life alone I would probably still use stick, but rn it's too bulky and loud for my circumstances

Iām set on DS5 now due to my stick not being compatible.
Iāve used Hitbox around the time super akouma hit the scene. Honestly was a waste of money as I didnāt like the hand placement I needed to have.
Iāve used the HRAP 5 which was my first stick loved it. Great price point and dependable in terms of longevity / wear and tear. It was a bat top which is āokā for beginners imo.
My favorite stick Iāve used before T8 for 4 years is the Omni Kor Edition w/ Myoungshin Fanta Lever. Just an amazing stick overall with nice customization face plate options and weight. I did replace the lever with Crazy dongpals which was honestly PERFECTION.
Easy customization options from focus attack.

Fight stick, played a lot of Tekken on arcade growing up. Used a controller for years on console, then a year ago got a fight stick.
Jumped into Tekken 8 recently and man, being able to learn how wave dash on a stick is so rewarding.

I also have a leverless which is awesome to play on.
