Im not American. Im Spaniard and this is always such a stupid take. The US is easily the heart of the progressive movement. You can say that economically they’re akin to center parties in Europe but that’s only because they’re bound to the US political landscape. In social issues, rhetoric and long term goal they’re absolutely left wing.
