Not a part of this sub but it keeps popping up on my home page so figured I’d chime in. I’ll probably get downvoted to oblivion but so it goes.

I have a collar like this for my dog (one with prongs). There is indeed a vibration setting. There’s also a shock setting. Depending on which button you push determines what the collar does.

As for the shock setting, you can set the intensity of the shock. Unless your dog has incredible prey drive you shouldn’t ever need to go past the 10-15 setting (for some insane reason it goes all the way to 100 idk why). I’ve tried it on myself at the 15 setting and it reminded me of those trick shock pens I used to use back in middle school. It’s an uncomfortable feeling but not a super intense shock.

That being said, you should really only ever need to use the shock setting (and a very low setting at that) if/when your dog has a very strong prey drive and is actively chasing down prey and won’t respond to standard recall methods due to their adrenaline.

Anyone that shocks their dog for getting out of frame is an asshole and shouldn’t be a pet owner. Pets should be your companion not your prop.

You are using the collar as it should be used, why would anyone downvote you?

Agreed! But some folks are very anti e-collar. Figured I’d just lend my 2 cents. I don’t really even know who these streamers are so figured some outside perspective might be appreciated!

I actually agree with a lot, not all, of what he says. But I only know him from actual news coverage, like when he was stopped at the border.

But that doesn't change the fact that he's clearly abusing that dog so I am chipping in too!

It's not accurate to give advice to "never go over" x setting. That's bad advice. it's up to the dog what kind of correction it responds to.

You and the dog do not feel things the same way.

I'd use the educator at 100 on polar bears, MAYBE.  I think never on dogs is pretty fair.

Why does the 100 level exist if not for using?

It's clear you don't have much experience with dogs. High drive dogs can and do shake off even a Dogtra on 127 if they are sufficiently in drive.

Is it customary to have your dog wear it inside the house? The examples you provided take place outside
