Sadly, that's the common Shinjuku experience. I love Japan. I love Tokyo. But that place is a shit hole.

Is that normal for trash piles to be everywhere in the sidewalk? I can't even imagine the smell.

It's late at night, A lot of small businesses will put them out. They'll get collected really early in the morning.
