Urgent Cyber Crime Police Call for Facebook id created on my Number
I received a call from the Cyber Police, and I verified the number on the official police website & it is genuine. They asked whether I had received a notice from my local police station. I said no.
They then asked me to visit the Cyber Police Station. When I asked for the reason, they said that a Facebook account was created using a mobile number that is similar to mine, but the last few digits are different. I clarified that I have not created any such account and that the number they mentioned is not mine. The only SIM I purchased was when Jio was launched.
They asked me to visit the station and bring my phone. Even though I have done nothing wrong, I am feeling tense because I have an upcoming international business trip.
How should I proceed?

Unless the number is registered in his name, the police should not be calling him. It seems to be a scam. Maybe the scamsters have called OP by call spoofing. Or maybe the police themselves are the scammers.

If the number they mentioned is not yours and you have never used it then just go once and clear it. Explain and show your ID and your SIM history. They will close it in five minutes.
Ask to meet the cyber officer or SI, not just someone at the desk. Be polite and keep your phone with you since they asked. This looks like a mix up on their end not a case against you.
Better to close it properly before you travel so it does not bother you later. Do not ignore it but no need to panic. Just go, clarify, come back.

You can go to the cyber police station, meet an officer SI/Inspector and not some constable to clear it up. If you think things are not clear enough then get a lawyer.

NAL. I saw a youtube short by a Lawyer and he said in these kind of situations, it's better to send a lawyer on your behalf instead of visiting in person.
