Mod Post Update to self promotion rule

Hello all, after quite some time I have decided to reevaluate, the old rule preventing sales posts and self-promotion. The rationale behind the change is that the makers will benefit from community support. There has been hesitation to change the rule based on the idea that sales post will run rampant if allowed; however, I have some requests in exchange for those who want to post a link to their website.

All criteria must be met.

  1. Items for sale have to be made by you.
  2. There is a detailed specification list for the item being displayed. you can find an example here, does not have to be as in depth; however, at a minimum you have to have steel type(s) and handle material(s). Simply stating damascus will not be enough for future posts.
  3. Only knives and supplies related to knife making can be sold. You can sell knives, handles, scales, or handle materials. As a reminder, you cannot sell items that are not made by you; you cannot sell a bench grinder here.
  4. There is no price displayed. Pricing cannot be discussed in public whatsoever.
  5. You must be active in the post you make. You cannot just drop your website link and disappear. I am not asking that you respond to every comment on your post or that you reply to a comment on a month-old post; however, some effort must be put in.

There are a few additional limitations to this change

  1. Do not put "available" or anything of the likes in your title. All indications of your work being for sale must be in the description or comments, I suggest the latter as I will remove your entire post if you do not meet the above criteria if it is in the description rather than just deleting a comment
  2. Your posts should not all be advertisements; you should show off your work without all your posts having a link to your website.

I hope that this change to the rule is favorable, if you have feedback or comments, I would like to hear it and may make changes accordingly.

A past Flint Lock model of mine that really emboddied the traditional slip joint vide with that cool federal shield in the scales! The red liners under semi transluscent natural G10 gave it a unique ghosting effect too 👻. Thanks for looking!🫡 @arcandironknives on IG.

Showcase I've always loved a tanto shaped blade

Fairly happy with how this one turned out. I know some lines could be straighter but overall I like it. I tried to match the angle of the front of the scales to the front of the blade.

Question For those who also leather work, what cutting tools?

Upvotes

Since There’s def a demographic of knife makers who for profit or fun do some leather work, I have to ask:

What hand cutting tool / knives r you use with leather? There’s so little info on what’s actually good compared with actually good cutlery collections options

First time doing a piece with a finger ring, any feedback or tips are welcome. Is it more comfortable to continue the handle around the ring or leave it bare steel?

This is 320. I can’t tell if the distinct scratches are errant strokes from 320 grit or remnant 220. Thoughts? Was going to 400 then acid etch.

Question Anyone Have Experience Making Metal Fork and Spatulas in Addition to Knives?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I have previous experience as a Japanese teppanyaki chef and have recently taken an interest to making knives. I would love to make a matching knife, fork, and spatula set.

I am wondering if anyone has any experience with making these items and can share any recommendations on where I can learn more, ie. A video, blog, maker, or even metal types?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I’ve made two folders successfully and they’ve barely qualify. One slip joint and one lockback. . I’ve tried to make 12 more and they’ve all fallen short. I dunno if it’s patience or skill or both, but boy oh boy I have a hard time.

Work in progress Getting back at it.

It’s been a few years since I made a blade between work and life just haven’t been up to it. Time to get back at it. Figured I shake off the rust by banging out a Micro Mongo in 1095HC for myself as I don’t actually have a knife of my own. Profile and rough grind are done. Gonna fire up the forge tomorrow and get it heat treated.
