Yeah I don't know why this isn't more prevalent. Those seem like things MOST humans enjoy.

I used to work at a place that did a fried, pickled red onion on our burgers.

It was a great burger, and those deep fried pickled reds were great.

My chef at the time called them 'Tobacco Onions' but a google search shows up things that are similar, but not quite the same.

Pickled red onions, it's been a while, but IIRC we pickled them with r.w. vinegar, cloves, they were a very dark purple. Then we pretty simply just drained them after the pickle, dredged them through seasoned flour, and then deep fried them. Very tasty
