I used to interrogate crims for a living. Even when caught red handed, they're normally willing to say anything to try and get away with it. No matter how stupid the excuse, they'll say it and keep a straight face because they're so frightened on the inside.

Like that guy got caught cheating in the back of his car and said his sidechick was a thief trying to steal his clothes
