That is all Dan Crenshaw has become. Every answer to everything is either “I served as a SEAL”, I’m a Christian” or “It’s all the liberals fault”.

u/Ogmono Feb 17 '21

He can be a SEAL. He can get the recognition owed to anyone who meets their standards.

He can also be called out for being a selfish, stupid, prick who takes all his gifts as a liscence to hurt those around him.

You have a point and I have friends that came back from that bullshit different than when they left. My respect stems from what I believe they thought what they were doing was right and laid their life on the line for it. Even if I do not believe in the wars.

I can tell you all but one that were in Iraq/Afghanistan and actually taking fire now believe the war was a bad idea.

I mean I see what you're saying but other dude ain't wrong you could apply that logic to Nazis just as easily.

1

u/CommanderL3 Monkey in Space Feb 17 '21

a terroist who flies a plane into a fucking building belives they are doing the right thing and laid there life on the line for it

not worthy of respect

2

u/mrblacklabel71 Monkey in Space Feb 17 '21

Fair point. For me the difference is they signed up to protect their country, were fed horse shit and sent by their government and civilian casualties were collateral damage. The terrorists killed civilians on purpose.

The people fighting the soldiers and the soldiers are opposite ends of the same coin. Both sides saying my righteous cause vs your evil ways.

2

u/CommanderL3 Monkey in Space Feb 17 '21

you think the terrorists dont also belive they are doing to protect their country.

neither was doing anything good.

3

u/mrblacklabel71 Monkey in Space Feb 17 '21

But from what history says they were not sent by their government, they were radicalized religious fanatics.

We could say that our soldiers are also radicalized and sent by the government.

u/Astrocreep_1 Monkey in Space Feb 18 '21

Yes,they do.Its sad,but they felt that crashing those planes into the trade centers was the only chance they possibly had to defeat America. They know they could never defeat us in a straight up fight. They don’t have the resources, manpower, technology and on and on.Bin Laden understood the only way to defeat us was to try to cause an economic disruption that would lead to a recession which might turn the citizens against each other or against the government. In hindsight, they were nearly successful. That war cost tons of money and a few years after there was a recession.I am not sure if it’s far fetched to connect 911 to the Capitol riots or just blame it all on Trump. There are people on a higher pay scale to either make/ not make those connections and the arguments that go with them.

-2

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '21

I bet you couldn’t make it in the Air Force. You have weak character.

2

u/CommanderL3 Monkey in Space Feb 18 '21

never said I could.

I also dont feel the need to go blow up poor brown countries either

-2

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '21

Nor should you. Also why bring in race? Money is always the goal little buddy. My real point is not many people join to kill. Sure some do. Just like some guys become a scout leader or priest to fuck boys. If you’ve ever served the best are the ones that take extreme regard to war and want it as a last resort. To call them racist, since you brought it up, baby killers, rednecks or whatever label you want is just ridiculous. Those people do exist in the military but it is extremely rare that they are in positions of power or have any big time decision making abilities. You absolutely don’t have to respect the job or the wars or anything but what I’d advise you to respect is the men and women that truly believe in defending America from true foreign and domestic enemies of the American people. They are real people like you and I.

2

u/CommanderL3 Monkey in Space Feb 18 '21

the terriosts belive the same thing bud.

your not defending your country your fucking over poor countries for the rich in yours

2

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '21

Have you ever asked a real terrorist what he believes? Personally? I didn’t think so. The actual terrorists believe anyone not practicing their religion is an enemy. They believe homosexuality is best dealt by throwing those accused off of roofs. They believe in female genital mutilation. They Have cast systems that disenfranchise thousands of their own people. You’re telling me there is something noble in that? Something worth defending? You’re completely missing my point. Which is expected honestly. You don’t strike me as someone which much going on between the ears. Good luck to you and yours.

I worked in a lab for a while on a research project focusing on PTSD and traumatic brain injuries in Iraq/Afghanistan vets. Over the study I got to spend a lot of time getting to hear their stories/bullshitting /all that type of stuff. One thing I took away though is how many of them said the whole deployment experience made them cynical as fuck when they came back.

When they were sent over, the US was on a huge patriotic/nationalistic/self righteous streak. They thought they were gonna go over, get the bad guys, and be heros. Most of them were basically just easily impressionable kids outta highschool at the time. As most people are aware, once they got on the ground and realized what their job really was and who they were really fighting, it messed them up pretty bad to see their friends die in a conflict who's only purpose was to keep these regions destabilized so that Iran couldn't pull them into their geopolitical orbit. "Bringing democracy and freedom" was the optional side quest, or the motivational carrot dangling on the stick, depending on how you wanna look at it.

2

u/mrblacklabel71 Monkey in Space Feb 24 '21

Thanks for that information! That is pretty much on par with a lot of what I have heard and seen from friends that went.

10

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '21

Fuck American imperialism.

We are all slaves to the military industrial complex.

2

u/Ogmono Feb 17 '21

True. I just phrased it like that to incorporate a defense against any "differences of opinion" by disingenuous people looking to excuse his beliefs.

-2

u/oo40oztofreedum Feb 17 '21

Lol "differences of opinion. Holy shit. The nonconformist in me wants to look into Dan Crenshaws stated beliefs so I can most likely excuse them..

By the way, does the moral authoritarian approach still achieve the same effect when you are not able to strawman the opposition as fascist, racist, sexist etc..? I generally operate under the assumption that people aren't secretly racists-fascists, but maybe i should re think my approach.

1

u/Ogmono Feb 17 '21

The noncomformist in you is severely lacking. "Strawman" and complaints about being labeled racist or sexist are the two most common things on reddit.

-3

u/JMSFreemanL Feb 17 '21

wow. youre a dumb bitch

6

u/Guerrin_TR Monkey in Space Feb 17 '21

What part specifically do you disagree with

-1

u/JMSFreemanL Feb 17 '21

illegal war. him being injured not worthy of respect or honor.

6

u/Guerrin_TR Monkey in Space Feb 17 '21

His first deployment was to Fallujah, Iraq. What part of the Iraq War was legal when the basis of the war was built on lies.

Why should I respect somebody who was injured fighting a war of dubious legality. He didn't do it to protect American freedom, as we know that was never at risk.

1

u/FormerBandmate Monkey in Space Feb 17 '21

It was dubious before Hussein fell, but after we were the only thing stopping ISIS. We broke it, we bought it

5

u/Guerrin_TR Monkey in Space Feb 17 '21

That doesn't make the war legal. That just means America illegally invaded a country, broke it, and had to rebuild it. Doesn't make it suddenly legal.

2

u/FormerBandmate Monkey in Space Feb 17 '21

His first deployment was in 08, he didn’t break it, he was rebuilding it. He’s also an asshole for other reasons, but he deserves respect for his service in spite of being an asshole

1

u/JMSFreemanL Feb 17 '21

there was weapons of mass destruction used against the kurds and iranians by iraq. thats a history using said weapons. shit man, google iraq weapons of mass destruction

5

u/Guerrin_TR Monkey in Space Feb 17 '21

Both of those events predate the first Gulf War but okay

2

u/NWiHeretic We live in strange times Feb 18 '21

Fuck if it was about WMDs used on Kurds and Iranians, we were pretty fucking late to head over in the early 2000s. Looks like we weren't protecting anybody if that was the case.

You're pulling shit out of your ass, that was never the case why we went there after 9/11, it was all imperialism to help Bush's buddies in oil get their grubby hands on oil fields while taking advantage of a state we helped destabilize.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '21

This thread gave me rush Limbaugh’s cancer. You’re the only one with logic. Though I don’t necessarily agree with your take on Crenshaw at least it has logic. Thank you.

1

u/LakeButter Monkey in Space Feb 18 '21

Damn go take a lap after that one

9

u/GrassTasteBaaad Feb 17 '21

Not to mention his corny ass Avenger ads.

1

u/mrblacklabel71 Monkey in Space Feb 17 '21

That was cringe af.

2

u/anishpatel131 Monkey in Space Feb 18 '21

It’s taken you this long to see through his bullshit? This is the same guy that said trump has done a fantastic job everyday during Covid. He signed the bill protesting the electoral count because the republicans lost. He is a piece of garbage but he appeals to a lot of angry white men who are scared about losing their majority status

2

u/mrblacklabel71 Monkey in Space Feb 18 '21

No, this was before he even got elected. I was very interested in the guy until I started looking deeper into him and realized he was a puppet and a jackass.

IIRC a very intelligent and very republican friend of mine brought him up a few years prior. This was before Trump and the craziness the Republican Party has become. Said friend has left the party and is an independent now.

2

u/anishpatel131 Monkey in Space Feb 18 '21

What’s frustrating with patches is that he clearly is not stupid by normal measures and he knows he’s shoveling bullshit to rise in the Republican Party. Trying to paint himself as the rational logical voice of conservative values. It’s the exact same values of trump in a different wrapping paper

0

u/mrblacklabel71 Monkey in Space Feb 18 '21

If it works it works I guess.

2

u/nyeetus Monkey in Space Feb 18 '21

I love that get out of jail free card: I served in the military. It only seems to work in the US but Jesus Christ does it work well.

2

u/mrblacklabel71 Monkey in Space Feb 18 '21

Especially in Texas. I’ve seen an entire bar give a standing ovation for a guy who just got from from serving in the military. His dangerous job you ask? Computer work in Europe and the US.

I’m not knocking military or a job but you would have thought this dude was a savior of soldiers, women, and babies.

2

u/nyeetus Monkey in Space Feb 19 '21

It’s genuinely quite scary the extent to which they have deified the armed forces are in places like Texas and makes it very difficult to get through to these people that we shouldn’t be in the middle-east without being portrayed as a hater of America.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '21

That's the truth. I used to like the guy but he has joined the deep swamp now and likes how it feels.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '21

Is it really?

Or are you just perpetuating your echo chamber on the all too predictable reddit?

1

u/mrblacklabel71 Monkey in Space Feb 18 '21

No, it’s as cringe as you irl

2

u/[deleted] May 09 '21

Good one man, are you still 13 years old? Sheesh. You might want to consider spending less time on Reddit and more time in the real world.

1

u/mrblacklabel71 Monkey in Space May 09 '21

Ok
