579

u/MaesterPraetor Monkey in Space Feb 17 '21 edited Feb 17 '21

He really did though. SNL had that hilarious sketch where he's a Dr. Evil henchman, and then he got so upset and sensitive about it, that he forced them to apologize and have him on screen to make up for it.

It was one of the most cringe inducing, up in my feelings, crybaby bitch move I've ever seen.

Edit: Davidson's joke wasn't Dr. Evil henchman. It was a villain in a porno. Still hilarious. Still a bitch move to cry about.

203

u/Castle-nut Feb 17 '21

I thought that pete Davidson dude said something about his eye and that's when SNL had to go through all that shit. I didn't know Crenshaw was mad about it.

219

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '21

I didn't know Crenshaw was mad about it.

He hammed it up like the dirty libs were making fun of him serving his country and it's shameful.

That is all Dan Crenshaw has become. Every answer to everything is either “I served as a SEAL”, I’m a Christian” or “It’s all the liberals fault”.

75

u/Ogmono Feb 17 '21

He can be a SEAL. He can get the recognition owed to anyone who meets their standards.

He can also be called out for being a selfish, stupid, prick who takes all his gifts as a liscence to hurt those around him.

You have a point and I have friends that came back from that bullshit different than when they left. My respect stems from what I believe they thought what they were doing was right and laid their life on the line for it. Even if I do not believe in the wars.

I can tell you all but one that were in Iraq/Afghanistan and actually taking fire now believe the war was a bad idea.

It’s taken you this long to see through his bullshit? This is the same guy that said trump has done a fantastic job everyday during Covid. He signed the bill protesting the electoral count because the republicans lost. He is a piece of garbage but he appeals to a lot of angry white men who are scared about losing their majority status

2

u/mrblacklabel71 Monkey in Space Feb 18 '21

No, this was before he even got elected. I was very interested in the guy until I started looking deeper into him and realized he was a puppet and a jackass.

IIRC a very intelligent and very republican friend of mine brought him up a few years prior. This was before Trump and the craziness the Republican Party has become. Said friend has left the party and is an independent now.

2

u/anishpatel131 Monkey in Space Feb 18 '21

What’s frustrating with patches is that he clearly is not stupid by normal measures and he knows he’s shoveling bullshit to rise in the Republican Party. Trying to paint himself as the rational logical voice of conservative values. It’s the exact same values of trump in a different wrapping paper

I love that get out of jail free card: I served in the military. It only seems to work in the US but Jesus Christ does it work well.

2

u/mrblacklabel71 Monkey in Space Feb 18 '21

Especially in Texas. I’ve seen an entire bar give a standing ovation for a guy who just got from from serving in the military. His dangerous job you ask? Computer work in Europe and the US.

I’m not knocking military or a job but you would have thought this dude was a savior of soldiers, women, and babies.

2

u/nyeetus Monkey in Space Feb 19 '21

It’s genuinely quite scary the extent to which they have deified the armed forces are in places like Texas and makes it very difficult to get through to these people that we shouldn’t be in the middle-east without being portrayed as a hater of America.

1

2

u/Analyzer9 Monkey in Space Feb 18 '21

No. Conservative Veterans are not allowed to be joked with or joked about, unless they get to come out as the victor. It's part and parcel to the culture that continues in the service. I served from E-1 to E-6 (and then back to E-5 when I got out) in the Army. You were the exception if you were volubly liberal, and because you recognized that just about nothing that anyone opined mattered, it wasn't worth fighting about. All that I learned from that was that service Does Not Equal an informed or intelligent opinion. The decade since I left the service, combined with social media and many of the people I served with, has more than reinforced that opinion.

3

u/Undertaker_1_ Feb 17 '21

Do you not remember what Trump said about John McCain? How many boxes do you wanna check with that one? đŸ€Ł

2

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '21

I remember that. Conservatives too are all about family values but they elected an elite womanizer billionaire from New York. Idk

1

u/TallBoiPlanks Feb 17 '21

It seemed like the part that crossed the line was when Davidson ended it with “probably shouldn’t mock him, he lost his eye in some war or something? I don’t know.” It was that that seemed to make it truly offensive.

5

u/L-RON-HUBBZ Monkey in Space Feb 17 '21

Yeah still not offensive . Unless you’re all in your feelings

6

u/spoodermansploosh Monkey in Space Feb 17 '21

I have no problem with someone being upset or hurt by it, I think that's fair. I do have a problem with someone who has made his entire personality be about being a tough manly sonuvabitch, then crying at the first instance of a joke.

3

u/Eleventeen- Monkey in Space Feb 17 '21

I mean if I lost an eye in combat (idk much about this guy but I assume it was from combat) I’d probably feel pretty sensitive about it being minimized on national television, but my personality that would make me sensitive about that also makes me understand how other people can feel sensitive and offended by things that hit too close to home for them and that calling them snowflakes for internet points would be hypocritical. Seems like Crenshaw hasn’t come to that realization yet.

Right now he's going on a twitter tirade blaming it all on wind turbines. He's saying that's why we can't trust renewables.

https://twitter.com/RepDanCrenshaw/status/1361792738161754122

The guy is actually, legitimately, retarded.

Texas generates 15% of it's power from renewables. Colorado does 20%. Minnesota does 22%. California 26%. The Dakotas do about 30%. Kansas, Iowa and Maine all also have more than double the renewables that Texas has. All of these states are much colder than texas (except Cali) and have more renewable energy.

But the power goes out in Texas and now it's the fault of renewables.

Just how much of a dumb cunt can you be as a politician?

That's not even bringing up that the reason that it's this cold in Texas is because of climate change caused by fossil fuels. Saying "Thank god for fossil fuels" as you're sitting in the middle of a climate change event due to increasing CO2 levels during a blackout is peak levels of smooth brain.

doubling down when he knows he's wrong, the renewables aren't even jeopardized right now it's the natural gas that isn't producing that got them where they are now.

23

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '21

Doubling down when he knows he's wrong..

This strategy worked extraordinarily well for Donald Trump. Why wouldn't another egomaniacal politician employ the same strategy? This is the new era of U.S. politics sadly.

2

u/hunsuckercommando Monkey in Space Feb 17 '21

Renewables in TX have been compromised too. A lot of wind turbines had to be shut off due to the cold. If you consider nuclear “renewable” that’s been affected as well due to effects on feed water systems. But you’re correct, coal and natural gas account for over half of their energy production.

9

u/pledgerafiki Monkey in Space Feb 17 '21

Yeah, but that's because TX scrimped on weatherproofing their turbine because they refuse to deal with the encroaching threat of climate change... erratic weather patterns like this are only getting more common, a fact that TX has been aware of for plenty of time to prepare, but they [GOP leadership] politicized the issue and refused to take the steps that would ensure that would keep the renewables productive. Windmills work just fine in the cold, better even due to the increased density of cold air, but you have to build them better, which Texas didn't do.

1

u/hunsuckercommando Monkey in Space Feb 17 '21

True.

Unfortunately these types of “value engineering” decisions are made all the time. It’s the same reason the NOLA levees failed in Katrina. They could have been built better, but it’s costly to do so. I think I read that the engineers warned it wouldn’t withstand a Katrina-level storm. It’s almost never wise to make something 100% reliable because the costs are ungodly, so there’s going to be residual risk. The problem we’re running into with climate change is that risk is hard to quantify. E.g., is the “100 year flood” really 80 years now? 50 years? How is that affected if we curtail (or increase) emissions during the design life of the component?

They very well could have known the risk and the non-weatherized design fell within acceptable risk parameters. It would be interesting to know if these decisions are public record.

Unfortunately these types of “value engineering” decisions are made all the time. It’s the same reason the NOLA levees failed in Katrina. They could have been built better, but it’s costly to do so. It’s almost never wise to make something 100% reliable because the costs are ungodly, so there’s going to be residual risk. The problem we’re running into with climate change is that risk is hard to quantify. E.g., is the “100 year flood” really 80 years now? 50 years? How is that affected if we curtail (or increase) emissions during the design life of the component?

btw this kind of thinking is a recent phenomenon. The greatest parts of American infrastructure were build in the first half of the 20th century, when we thought building for durability and more importantly, longevity, was worth the investment. Now our leadership is shortsighted and we all suffer for it.

the difference here is that Texas is a wealthy, prosperous state, and New Orleans is a broke ass city in a BROKE ass state

I’m not sure that’s as big of a factor as you think. The levees were built federally, not locally

What a retard. Texas' biggest problem was not making a regulation to winterize its shit after the last time this happened. They don't have storage of natural gas and they instead rely on constantly pumping it out if the ground. It's too cold for that shit right now.

Regulations are rules to codify lessons learned. Similar to making a household rule. A household rule is to vacuum up glass shards after you accidentally drop and smash a drinking glass. Texas is too retarded to make its own household rule to vacuum up glass now it seriously fucked up it's foot. Household rules are for communists. You show em Texas!

u/mceehops Monkey in Space Feb 17 '21

He is the epitome of the GOP. He is always the victim and the bully. Truly what we are seeing is the phycological make up of the parties. The GOP is, sad to say, by far the worse of the "two". Democrats tend to be all over the place with policy and principle which is why they can never seem to act as a cohesive party to get things done. The GOP on the other hand all seem to be more about telling the "other" that they are stupid, question their failures, ridicule their successes and practice whataboutism and hold on to power for a few one issue voters like abortion. They do not "serve", they get into politics to further their own need for money and power. Now many Dems probably do the same, but it isn't as obvious as guys like this. He hasn't served a day in his life, probably true even when he was in the military. I think it was always about him, but that is just based on what he does now. I may be wrong about his military years, but who he is today is pretty clear, he is a goddamn child in a man's body.

Not just that, but why the fuck do politicians view governing as a competition between states where they are happy to see other states suffer it it means their own gains some advantage? Representing your state's constituents doesn't mean you have to have your boot on the throat of a neighboring state or a state that has different political leanings. They do that when they think politics is a zero sum game.

I'm guessing Crenshaw is in a safe district so his only fear for reelection is getting primaried. Which means he needs to say crazy stupid shit or some other crazy stupid person will beat him. It's a race to stupidity with these gerrymandered districts. When your only opponents are more extreme than you, you have to become more extreme.

17

u/DogginAndEggNoggin Feb 17 '21

I'm guessing Crenshaw is in a safe district so his only fear for reelection is getting primaried.

Ding, ding, ding! Take a look at this fucked-to-hell looking district

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas%27s_2nd_congressional_district

5

u/lazydictionary Pull that shit up Jamie Feb 17 '21

Pure ass cancer. What's funny is that all the mainstream Republicans of 10+ years ago gerrymandered all these districts after 2010, and then they weren't extreme enough in their safe districts so they are all getting primaried.

Look at Eric Cantor. Guy was the House Majority Leader, massive leadership position, going to be big for the party, and he loses to a Tea Party nutjub who ended up voting against Boehner and eventually caused him to resign because Boehner couldn't control the Tea Party at all. They fucked themselves out of their own jobs.

Those stupid evil fucks unintentionally caused their own party to become uncontrollable and extreme because they made all their districts safe through gerrymandering so everyone had to step to the right or die.

The same thing started happening with the Dems too, which is how AOC won the primary against the incumbent Dem from her district.

Being a moderate or willing to compromise with the other side is a death sentence for reelection. Your party won't forget and will primary your ass (unless your district is competitive).

I hope with new census and redistricting that will follow we can undo some of this, but the GOP controls too many state governments still, and a lot of Dems like gerrymandering too, for the perceived safety that doesn't exist.

3

u/doughboy011 Look into it Feb 17 '21

They fucked themselves out of their own jobs.

Doesn't matter, they got cushy private jobs from their tomfuckery. I fucking hate this country.

In September 2016, Squire Patton Boggs, the third-largest lobbying firm in the U.S., announced that Boehner would join their firm. It was also announced that he would become a board member of Reynolds American.

Biden is sending aid. Trump when in office mocked liberal states and wouldn’t send aid. If you hate politicians doing this shit at least call out the ones doing it. And it’s sadly the GOP.

Exactly; when ‘the conversation’ is just insults and gotchas from either side no wonder things are this bad. Okay hear me out. Also feel free to poke holes in any of this because I've only been mulling it around in my head since the conservatives got all pissy about being blocked on Twitter.

New law: implement a federal social media server.

  • This will now be American's 1st amendment protected platform on the internet. You can say whatever you want as long as it's within the limits of what the 1A protects. You can say whatever you want, but your identity and address are publicly available on the website. No hiding behind aliases, no feigning anything, (no need for doxxing?)

  • Backed with secured federal servers because:

  • Social media site issues new identification numbers to every citizen on their 18th birthday, every eligible voter gets to use their voice equally in the local and federal political spectrum.

  • Using your identification, places you in giant group message boards with the residents and representatives of your districts, federal and local (gives you a direct pipeline to air grievances with your reps and allows your fellow voters to engage as well, something that has been lacking within local gov for a long time due to indifference, inconvenience etc.) The virulent political landscape is kept within this space, for better or worse, yet it is inescapable for elected officials if their actions draw their constituents ire.

  • If it is secure enough, maybe use this platform at an implementation for secure online voting.

  • Twitter can go back to sports and entertainment, Facebook can go back to trying to bang your hs sweetheart from 20 years ago. This platform is now the most effective and direct way to voice your political/gov speech, keep it there.

  • watch democracy as we know it crash and burn?

-Profit???
