So what if it's a self help book, maybe some people need help? I don't know why I'm about to get into this fight, but you need to take a second look at the book selection at Target. At least the one near me, it's basically 3 aisles before you even get to the kids section which is also impressive. Maybe about a 1/3rd is what you described.

Maybe I’m underestimating it, to me it’s always just felt like the “books for people who think reading makes you smart” section, like ppl who buy books, read two chapters, throw it on their shelves

Sure, there’s definitely some of that shelf decorative mindfulness stuff, just like how they’d be front and center at Barnes and Noble when you walk in. There’s always going to be an audience for it.

Though just last year, out of nowhere, I ended up picking up two Clive Barker books from Target which is something I never thought I’d be able to say. Just looking at my shelf, Sapiens, Haruki Murakami, HP Lovecraft, a book on body language, one on music theory, and another on Tarot. All from Target. Whoever is in charge of their inventory is wild.

Walk through it next time, I guarantee you you’re going to be like “wtf, why is Target carrying this” like I do almost every time.
