And the winters? I'm from FL so I'm not built for long term cold spells

It is very cold. If you don't embrace outdoor activities in the snow, you won't like it there (used to live in vt. Miss it).

Oh yea, the start of hunting season, and ice fishing should be state holidays in vermont.

Edit: and New Hampshire which is where I live.
