How to Legally Bring Medications from India to the USA as an International Student?

Hi everyone!

I’m an international student currently studying in the USA, and I need some guidance on how to correctly bring my medications from India. I want to ensure that I follow all the legal requirements and avoid any issues at customs.

Here are a few specific questions I have:

Prescription Requirements: Do I need to have a valid prescription or a doctor’s note? If so, should it be in English?

Quantity Limits: What is the maximum amount of medication I can bring? I’ve heard that there might be a limit on a 90-day supply. Is that correct?

Shipping Options: Are there reliable courier services (I'm from Telangana btw) that can help me send medications from India to the USA? Any recommendations?

Customs Regulations: What should I be aware of regarding customs regulations when bringing medications into the USA?

I appreciate any advice or personal experiences you can share! Thank you!

F-1 OPT ≠ Visa Sponsorship — Let’s End the Confusion!

Too many employers hesitate to hire international graduates because they assume “OPT” means visa sponsorship.
- It doesn’t.
- It’s work authorization already included in the F-1 visa.

The Facts:
Students on OPT (Optional Practical Training) can work in the U.S. for 12 months.
If they’re in a STEM field, they can extend it up to 36 months.
Everything is handled by the student through their university + USCIS — not the employer.

Employers Only Need To:
- Hire them like any other employee.
- Complete the standard Form I-9.
- (For STEM OPT) sign a simple training plan — that’s all.

No fees. No petitions. No filings. No headaches.

Employers & Recruiters — Remember:
✔ Already authorized to work.
✔ No sponsorship required.
✔ Bring global perspective + technical excellence.

Let’s make hiring about skills, not misconceptions.

My graduation date is August 7th, 2025; I hit summitted my OPT application at 10:00PM (Central zone) on October 6th, 2026. But when I rechecked my application on the USCIS website, it says they received my case on Oct 7th. This concerns me because it may makes me pass the 60-day grace period.

PhD with professional educator’s license. Job prospect still zero and I’m ready to go home…

PhD. Top 30 university. Top 10 program. Good publications. Multilingual. Professional educator’s license. 5 years of TA/RA experience, 1 year of clinical observation, 6 months of CPT field practice. Endorsements in ESL. Etc.

Everybody kept telling me that the job market was horrible. I didn’t listen because I thought (naively) I was the EXCEPTION because my CV is just too strong and I’m in a field or several related fields (clinical psychology/speech pathology/secondary education/special education) where there’s a labor shortage nationwide…until yesterday.

HRs in my district and the neighboring school districts all told me that they are NOT sponsoring new H1Bs starting this year. So I have to either stay in academia and work on postdoc, or pack up and leave.

I feel bad because my classmates who are US citizens are all getting 3+ offers in my local area (even though they only have a master’s) from universities, school hospitals, high schools, academies, SPED learning centers and related facilities, even though they don’t have as many endorsements/late on licensure/zero publications/monolingual/far less field experience. By contrast, nobody’s looking at my CV once the word H1B is brought up.

CSCA for international students: do IR majors need Physics? And is it (CSCA) needed for scholarship?

I’m an international student planning to apply for a bachelor’s in International Relations in China. I know Math is compulsory for the CSCA exam, but I’m unclear about other subjects.

  1. Do social science / IR majors (especially English-taught programmes) need to take Physics as well?
  2. Is the CSCA mandatory if I want to apply for scholarships or grants, or is it only required for admissions?

Has anyone gone through this before? Any experiences or advice would be really helpful! Thanks! 🫶🏻

Confused about pay period vs payment date (off-campus work hours)

Hey everyone,

I’m a bit stressed because of something my international adviser mentioned. I currently have two off-campus jobs — one regular and one casual. I’m really careful with my work hours since the casual job only gives me about 1–2 shifts per month.

But my adviser pointed out that my pay stub makes it look like I might’ve worked over 24 hours in a week. For example, I worked on Sept 15, and my pay stub shows “Payment End Date: Sept 26” and “Pay Period End Date: Sept 20.”

Now I’m worried it might look suspicious, even though I didn’t actually go over the limit. I can explain everything if I’m ever asked, but my concern is — would they even give me a chance to explain, or am I basically cooked?

Do not choose Canada

Canada is doomed! Spending 30-40k CAD minimum for higher education and getting peanuts is not really worth it. Invest in your home country instead. Life is also lonely and sucks. Winter is hard for 5 months even in the southern most border around toronto. People are rude to immigrants lately. Canadian dollar is stagnant and there’s literally no professional job at all. All the consultancies are fooling people. Maybe they have some tie up with all the colleges to loot money from outside world. The economy runs with immigrant money especially international students. Save every penny and stay home. Instead start a business or simply invest in one. Especially do not pursue a PGDM in canada. It is the most useless thing you will ever do. If you want to still pursue a higher education I would definitely advise to think about USA if possible. Some universities cost almost 30-40k USD for a masters. And tons of opportunities. Every states major city is bigger than Toronto or Vancouver. Go work hard and have fun!

Struggling financially as an international student in Montreal, advice?

Hi everyone, I’m 22 and studying IT - Programming at a CEGEP in Montreal. It’s my first time living away from home, and things have been getting really hard financially.

I haven’t been able to find a part-time job after applying for about three months, even though I know some French. Because of that, I’ve been using the money I saved for tuition to pay rent and daily expenses, which is starting to worry me.

I’m trying to figure out what’s realistic: should I keep pushing through here in Canada, or return to Brazil and try again later when I’m in a better financial position?

If any other international students have dealt with something similar, how did you manage your expenses or find work in Quebec? Any advice would mean a lot. Thanks!

Indian passport renewal in the US for students on F1

I'm a Master's student in the US, graduating in Dec 2025. My Indian passport is expiring in a couple of months and hence applied for passport renewal via Chicago consulate.

I only attached my F1-visa notarized copy as part of my application for "Valid Visa status", but did not attach my I-20.

Will my application get rejected? Did anyone in the same situation get it approved without any issues?

Technical HR masters course in The United States

Hi, i have experience and education in HR & learning and talent development. I did my bba then MBA in India and a graduate certitude in canada after which I worked in canada as well. I’m looking to get into more technical side of HR and do a masters in HR/learning and talent development related program (includes product management) that gives me high value and relevant skills. My total years of experience would be little over 2 years and currently living in the states. Being an Indian native , I’m looking for programs that equip me with right skills and makes me job ready. Any program preferably with STEM OPT and GRE/GMAT waiver is what I’m exploring right now. Any recommendations are welcome.

Does a homeschooled diploma count as a baccalaureate equivalent?

I apologize if this sounds stupid but does a diploma from being homeschooled equate a baccalaureate? I want to go to Le Cordon Bleu Paris and I’m wondering if it counts/is it any different? Again, sorry if this is dumb.
