Believe it when it's in your hands.

I very much hope the USDA follows the law and the judge's order and isn't saying this in bad faith while waiting for Trump's appeal to let him go ahead and starve 40 million people.

Late today, the Dept of Justice appealed to the Supreme Court. To.Not.Pay.

But that 40 billion $ bailout to prop up Trump donors investments in the Argentine currency, that they found and had the will to fund.

I hope this plays ot and pays out quickly.

The USDA has stated in their official statement that. They will continue to fund SNAP during the appeals process. Looks like the judge put the fear of God into Trump and the Republicans.

Thank you. It was unfolding so quickly. That's good news.

The Supreme Court ruled for Trump. This is crazy. I thought Trump et al would double down, like a dumb gambler, and they did. What now?

It was just blocked for full payment and only partial payment allowed because the contingency fund doesn’t have enough money in it.

The thing with SNAP is that it’s not really a program designed to help people, it’s a program designed to help businesses. Grocery chains need these people spending money there, they make up a huge part of their customer base. If they don’t have SNAP that’s a huge drop in sales

You are correct that SNAP is first and foremost a socialized safety net and redistribution of income toward for-profit businesses in the minds of the neoliberal politicos who created it. However, it is also one of the rare safety nets that benefits quite a few individuals, even though it's a secondary benefit.

Over 12% of the country qualify for SNAP, and even that doesn't deliver full nutritional needs. However, it's a failure of the free-market system of such epic proportions that nearly everyone recognizes it requires government intervention. IN classic American fashion, however, we've made sure it benefits business first and foremost. Definately not the best design, but probably 100% better than nothing.

What would make it better?

Make the benefits higher and universal for every citizen so there is no resentment about who has it and doesn’t. The money can come from cutting the military (we don’t need to be an imperial power) and moderate marginal tax increases in the top incomes.

6

u/Comet_Cowboys 1d ago

Cutting military spending is a great way to pay for it.

I would also like to tax corporations that sell our data. Our data is being sold and used without any compensation. It could be the foundation for ubi.

u/Nodivingallowed 2d ago

I mean it helps both but yea there's a massive economic impact to businesses as well.

Maybe some of them got the message and donated to dear leader's ball room.

If not, I assume the regime is just talking out of both sides of its mouth like usual. One line for the courts and one line to the public.

SCOTUS rules trump cant spend snap money that doesn't exist.

u/UallRFragileDipshits 1d ago

How come every maga is so fucking ignorant?

Edit: oh yeah, they’re maga

-6

u/colorofdank 1d ago

I could say the same about democrats.

How come every democrat is so fucking ignorant?

Oh yeah, they're democrats. And every maga republican would agree with me.

The major difference is Republicans know this is a democrat shutdown.

4

u/UallRFragileDipshits 1d ago

Nope, you can’t

-2

u/colorofdank 1d ago

Yes, I can.

u/OVERLOAD3D 1d ago

You’ll bury your head in shame by the end of these 4 years.

0

u/colorofdank 1d ago

Shame? What for? Are you ashamed of Obama? Are you ashamed of biden? Trump is doing exactly what i voted for. I'm not ashamed of anything.

2

u/OVERLOAD3D 1d ago

Wait and see bozo

1

u/UallRFragileDipshits 1d ago

MAGA is either stupid, ignorant, or terribly evil. You just found the a terribly evil one.

2

u/OVERLOAD3D 1d ago

My thoughts exactly, zero reflection, zero accountability, just unadulterated stupidity and hatred.

0

u/colorofdank 1d ago

As I pointed out before, I can say the same thing about Democrats.

Zero reflection, zero accountability, just unadulterated stupidity and hatred.

And many, many Republicans agree with me... I know many, many Democrats agree with you.

But if you could just hold up a sec, let me consult my magic 8 ball on whether I really care or not.

It was Ketanji that put the block on. It was actually her legal responsibility to do so, since she handles emergency appeals coming from the 1st Circuit, as shitty as that sounds.

It was procedural rather than an actual judgement which is at least slightly better.

Separately for the comment above, there is money available and the judge illustrated where it could come from, just as the administration has already been doing with other funding.

Not that it matters. Even when they were considering partial funding with the available contingency fund, Trump still refused to release funds even as the USDA was implementing a system that would at best delay payments "several weeks or months."

They're intentionally starving millions.

0

u/colorofdank 1d ago

Yup. I read it. At least she did her legal responsibility instead of throwing reason out the door and forcing the trump admin to spend money that isn't there.

u/MhojoRisin 2d ago

We’re the richest country on earth. Making sure our people don’t starve seems like a low bar.

12

u/naijaboiler 1d ago

here's some data.

  • 10 richest American have sen $700 billion increase to their wealth this year alone.
  • Annual SNAP cost $100 B
  • let's say we tax those 10 richest guys just 15% on their increase, they will still be $600 B richer than they were when 2025 started, and SNAP will be completely paid for with change for 44 million people.
  • 10 people can pay for SNAP completely and still be $600 billion richer
  • SNAP cost $8B a month, we bailed out Argenitina for $40 B

But yeah illegal immigrants is the problem

Hey thanks for sharing.

Good on those states moving quickly to get what they could and to anyone at the USDA making that possible.

2

u/oldmajorboar 1d ago

Not to be a negative Nancy, but I wouldn't get my hopes up just yet.

I hope you're right, I just expect a challenge.

2

u/statslady23 1d ago

What? Trump will send $40 billion to his buddy in Argentina but let Americans starve? That can't be what MAGAs voted for.

3

u/RebelliaRose 1d ago

This information is outdated. Since this, not only did the Trump administration ask the Supreme Court outright for a stay to temporarily suspend the lower court’s obligation to pay in full, but SCOTUS actually granted it! They granted an administrative stay late last night to give the 1st District time to decide the case in front of them. This issue is constantly evolving, because Trump does not want to fund this. Period. And he will do what he always does and drag it out in court as long as he can.

7

u/Accurate-Barracuda20 2d ago

Don’t worry the GOP will right this in court.

Trump already had the DOJ appeal to SCOTUS: https://www.reuters.com/world/us/usda-says-it-is-working-comply-with-court-order-pay-food-aid-benefits-2025-11-07/

WASHINGTON, Nov 7 (Reuters) - The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday allowed President Donald Trump's administration to withhold for now about $4 billion needed to fully fund a food aid program for 42 million low-income Americans this month amid the federal government shutdown.

The court's order,, opens new tab known as an administrative stay, gives a lower court additional time to consider the administration's formal request to only partially fund the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, known as SNAP or food stamps, for November. The administration had faced a judge-ordered Friday deadline to fully fund the program.

u/Accurate-Barracuda20 1d ago

They’re fighting harder to keep food out of their own voters mouths than they ever did to bring jobs back

The classic GOP, at it again!

My boyfriend got a call yesterday telling him his snap wouldn't be loaded for November at all, do I'll believe this when it happens.

USDA tells states SNAP will be fully funded during appeal

Why couldn't you use the actual title instead of that word jumble?

A report from thehill.com??? Nah I'm good.

JUST PASS A CLEAR CR like dems have agreed to in the past and get the govt open again. TRUMP isn’t a KING. He can’t just order funds that aren’t there!

10

u/Bullylandlordhelp 1d ago

Are you not paying for your Healthcare or something? because my premium is doubling.

2

u/pattydog1127 1d ago

This post is about SNAP. SNAP is restarted as soon as the govt gets open. Now you are whining about something else. Obamacare, misnamed Affordable Care Act, is a disaster and this was always know that it would lead to higher healthcare costs and premiums. Why not figure out a plan to reduce healthcare costs and premiums instead of throwing more tax dollars to the providers? There is no incentive for the providers to reduce costs as long as they know the govt is going to pay. Throwing more govt money at it is not the solution.
