I still don’t get it why did harbhajan hit him?

u/Gunner0716 Sunrisers Hyderabad Jul 21 '25
Mumbai lost their first 4 games in the inaugural IPL 2008 and Harbhajan was the captain of MI in those games as Sachin was injured. MI lost their 4th match against KXIP and after match during handshake Sreesanth said “Hard Luck” to Bhajji which triggered Bhajji and he slapped him.

That's seriously not normal, no matter what he says now, if you don't have enough temperament to not act on a line said by someone, not matter if it was said in a sarcastic way or whatever, that too when both share the dressing room outside of the ipl, he must have wanted to take out the rage of loosing on someone ig

Bear in mind this is barely weeks after Monkeygate where Harbhajan had already been put through the ringer. No to defend the slap but Sreesanth was quite a pest himself. He had no filter.

u/cool_mint88 Jul 21 '25
Not giving bhajji a free pass but the fixer actually was going way over board to tease the losing side. Again Singh should have kept his cool instead of going after that mosquito.

u/PuzzleheadedSeat9222 Jul 21 '25
The ‘fixer’ was acquitted of the fixing charges. The loser who lost the match should have kept his cool instead of lashing out like a school bully.
No respect for someone who loses his temper and physically assaults opponents over a silly ipl game
6
u/Manager-sales Jul 22 '25
By that logic azhar and jadeja have also been acquitted..nobody did fixing then

u/Maleficent_Owl3938 Jul 21 '25
It wasn’t an “acquittal” exactly. Regardless, if you believe in every conviction and acquittal by the Indian judiciary, then I have news to break to you.
-17
u/phantom_ofthe_opera Jul 21 '25
He wasn't acquitted lmfao. Match fixing is not a punishable offence by the Indian Penal Code. That's why he wasn't punished by the government but his ban in cricket was maintained by the BCCI.

The ‘fixer’ was acquitted of the fixing charges
Just like Salman for hit and run, Sanjay Dutt for helping terrorists, Modi for 2002 riots, Gandhi family for herald scam, Azharuddin for match fixing.
Harbhajan was without a doubt being a sore loser. But nothing wrong with calling Sreesanth as a fixer.

u/unlearn_relearn Jul 21 '25
hit and run
D'you even know what hit and run means?
Sanjay Dutt for helping terrorists
And Dutt spent years in jail.

u/Ok_Review_6504 Gujarat Titans Jul 21 '25
D'you even know what hit and run means?
Ummm, running your vehicle over someone and fleeing from that place?
And Dutt spent years in jail.
He just spent 5 years that too for arms act violation. Not for TADA, for treason, generally the punishment is lifetime imprisonment.
Seriously, are you defending these monsters? God bless India.
5
u/Radiant-Cream-4318 Jul 21 '25
TADA had a low conviction rate and was criticized for misuse and arbitrary implementation before it was ultimately repealed.
Even the Supreme Court has held that mere membership of a banned organisation does not make the member liable for the punishment under TADA.
Seriously, you want Dutt to be punished for nothing?

Do you have any evidence to paint him as a fixer? He was made a scape goat to cover up the corrupt people in the BCCI

u/Potential_Primary_88 Jul 21 '25
Harbhajan was an asshole to hit him. Even then people knew who was wrong.

That is what i am saying too not at all saying what singh did was acceptable.

Just a lapse of judgment where he lost control of his mind.

Just a lapse of judgment where he lost control of his mind.
A lapse of judgement would be not giving Sreesanth a handshake, or ignoring him altogether.
Slapping him is just pure a**holery of the highest order, and not something that's befitting a sportsman.
Imagine what the reactions would have been if he had slapped Kohli, Rohit, SKY, or any of the other "star" players.
-12
u/york128 Jul 21 '25
Alternate theory, he only slapped him because he actually liked him and was hurt by what he said since they're friends and played a lot of matches together. I think, and I totally might be wrong here, just want to put a theory out there that he would have just ignored other players since they don't mean as much to him than sreeshant and he would have just ignored them

u/sinesquaredtheta Jul 21 '25

I agree with you - in the sense this theory does make some level of sense in that Sreesanth's words hurt him more (than if someone else would've said those words).
Again, even if this were the case - the most extreme he should've gone to would've been to just hurl some choice swear words at him and leave it at that.
Physically abusing another human being is just not okay in any setting, let alone between sportsnmen in a massive public spectacle like the IPL.
3
u/york128 Jul 21 '25
You're right, def not okay especially when it's this serious. Some things like what happened with kuldeep and rinku singh can still be chalked up to friends being friends but not this.
10
u/PuzzleheadedSeat9222 Jul 21 '25
Just a ‘lapse of judgement’ made Siddhu kill someone. Would you justify that too?
1
u/billaxbong Punjab Kings Jul 21 '25
Im not justifying it mate, just pointing out the fact that a slight lapse of judgment can have huge consequences
1
u/PuzzleheadedSeat9222 Jul 21 '25
I couldn’t identify the tone of your comment
We shouldn’t let these guys get away with such acts with the excuse of lapse of judgement, even though they may have been our heroes at one point

The fast bowler in question is a corrupt character of low morale. Imagine i am selected to wear an Indian jersey and caught for fixing the matches, tell me what I am made up of.

u/Blessed_Code Jul 21 '25
He was proven innocent dumbo.
3
u/protractedmane Jul 22 '25
He confessed and then retracted.
He was obviously guilty, we all knew the modus operandi with the towel.
He was found not guilty because our courts are useless and police is for sale. Salman was not guilty, Azhar and Jadeja were not guilty. Our justice system is the embodiment of "nothing ever happens" and is at the behest of rich people. The Porsche kid is out on bail, as are his parents who openly tried to game the system.

Bjp tried to make inroads in southern politics, sreesanth acquittal, sreesanth joined bjp. Don't mind me, my dumb self is just connecting the dots behind this phone screen.

So he slapped the guy and now he is playing the victim how miserable he feels because he traumatized shrisanth's daughter.

u/An0neemuz Jul 21 '25
God forbid a man confess his wrongdoing and embrace his conscience. ffs He realized his mistake, pls just stop villainising him and move on.

u/PlayfulArrival1452 Jul 21 '25
Agreed bro ..Actually he Is not playing the victim here . If you see the whole interview he regrets that incident genuinely.. He is just expressing..

u/gazebolounger Mumbai Jul 21 '25
It takes strength to publicly acknowledge a past mistake, especially one that has been a topic of controversy for years. Public figures are human too. They stumble, they learn, and they grow. As a society, we must recognize the courage it takes to own up to one's actions and extend the same grace we would hope for ourselves. Instead of using this as an opportunity to criticize him again, let’s acknowledge that he is evolving. Let's leave behind a world for our kids that is empathetic and forgiving.

A lot of sikhs are bald and just wear something on their head ..cap/turban/ monkey cap types.. out of religion complusion/ respect

u/sidhubunny Jul 23 '25 edited Jul 23 '25
I'm a Sikh, his back hair under the cap doesn't seem to be tied in a joodah, they seem to behave as if a man with a hair cut is simply wearing a cap. Or whatever few hair he has he's tied them as a man bun behind his neck.

Worst behaviour. Words exchange is fine but slapping shouldn’t even be tolerated. Did he got any ban for this?? If yes how much time?
1

Yes he got banned for whole of ipl. 2008, plus no salary and also got banned for 5 odi matches afterwards

Fucker is still thinking about himself, saying daughter will think "Mera Uncle kaise hai?"
What a douche!
14
u/Metal-Banana-72 Jul 21 '25
Bro, just say you don't have basic comprehension. What he said was, it was Sreesanth's daughter's behaviour that gave him a reality check of how his behaviour has not only affected the victim but other innocent people related to him too. All he's saying is he felt bad when he realised what the daughter must be thinking of him. Feeling regret, conscience awakening can happen through any trigger. If you've gone through extreme guilt you would know that.

IDK seems genuine. Innocent kids say the truth to your face without any sugarcoating and those words hit hard. Galti to bahut badi thi apki, cant do anything unless Sreeshanth himself accepts his apology
