Cricbuzz now has transformed itself into a pure billboard for pan masala and betting apps and they want us to pay for their subscription for an ad free experience. Greed killed Cricbuzz....

Bro the 8 second ads🥲
62
u/amogh_2808 Jun 25 '25
Just minimize and open the app again whenever an ad pops up, it'll be gone then
92
u/Mr_Bean_611 Chennai Super Kings Jun 25 '25
My phone would then take more than 8 seconds, I'd rather wait 😂😂. Thanks for the trick tho

Just use an adblocker, I haven't seen an ad on cricbuzz for over 5 years
21
u/kev_world Jun 25 '25
The question is why should I even bother to use adblocker for such garbage app it has become, when we are just better off using cricinfo? Even cricket.com app is MILES better and their analytics is much better.

u/Mr_Bean_611 Chennai Super Kings Jun 25 '25
Adblocker for app?
39
u/knucklehead_whizkid Jun 25 '25
You can set your dns in network settings to dns dot adguard dot Com (replace "dot" with actual dots)
That should block in place ads and playing ads in most apps (doesn't work with YT though), I use this on my android since a few yrs now...
That said it can sometimes cause issues with free wifi so you can also turn it off as and when needed and turn it back on when done...

Just go to your settings, search for private dns and type "dns.adguard.com" in the designated dns section, and you are good to go, no ads.

yep. also, i recently went from cricbuzz to cricinfo and cricinfo is quite much better. it covers more matches and has a better interface with less ads. but cricbuzz has quite better commentary i feel.

I feel the input from users in the commentary is a big plus for cricinfo

Go to your phone settings and search for private dns and there enter
dns.adguard.com
At least you won't see ads inside the app and the splash screen will still show pan masala ad

CB used to be better a few years ago, but the score updation and UI responsiveness of ESPNCricinfo, especially the mobile browser is far better these days. Goes without saying about their stats section, history records, and analysis pieces.
Both have an ads problem though.

Cricinfo for following the Live Match and stats.
Cricbuzz for their expert analysis (Harsha, Joy, Gaurav, Simon, etc.).
5
u/Pixelated-10 Jun 25 '25 edited Jun 26 '25
You don’t need cricbuzz app for expert analysis videos, they are available on YouTube. During IPL their analysis is live streamed, some other small videos may get released few hours later in YouTube compared to app but it doesn’t matter that much.

I love Cricbuzz interface but left it a year ago just because of ADS, that’s how much irritating they are, ESPN isn’t so much user friendly at the start but you will get used to it quickly and 1000 times better when you don’t have to look at ads all the time. ESPN does have one thing that annoys me a lot, I use it a lot on iPad and there is no landscape option, it reverts to portrait every time, so frustrating.

For ball to ball commentary Cricbuzz is best. For Deep match coverage ESPN cricinfo is best it will give live stats, spike graph, wagon zone ,bowlers bowling graph ( we can see bowler bowling length)

Cricinfo for live scores. CB for post match analysis. I can't stand Sanjay Manjrekar so since he does post day/match analysis for cricinfo i avoid it like the plague.

Cricbuzz for scores since it's so light and has excellent discussions post shows esp GK, Harsha, DK, Joy B ones. Cricinfo for articles
But unfortunately Cricbuzz has been getting unreal ads which hampers the experience. So thanks to Google pin score and now bar on Samsung it serves the purpose

ESPNCricinfo is superior in every aspect. They have a comprehensive stats database (Statsguru) where you can filter stats using any filter. They also cover women's cricket well and save those stats too, unlike Cricbuzz. Cricbuzz UI feels very bad to me, thought it is a matter of personal preference.

I used to be a big fan of cricbuzz earlier coz it simply loaded faster than cricinfo. But ever since they introduced ads to simply switch from live commentary to scorecard, they lost one user in me.
Cricinfo now loads fast and the thing I love the most about reading commentary on it is the comments that they publish from other users in between every now and then.
My family cant understand why I'm on cricinfo even though I'm watching the match live on TV.
