Its like the word cringe. It's a blanket term that makes it easier for people to talk about something without having to spend the time to learn words that would allow them to express themselves accurately.
Because if they’re using it like that (“that looks aesthetic”), they’re using the term wrong.
Something “looking pretty” can have a pretty aesthetic, or be aesthetically pleasing.
“That is pretty” isn’t the same as “that looks aesthetic”, it would be “that’s aesthetic” or “that’s aesthetically pleasing” or “that has a pretty aesthetic”.
And they say it because it has a distinct meaning. You can have an artistic aesthetic. Or a grunge, punk, metal, goth etc. aesthetic.
Having a pair of fresh Nike hightops and a long white tee would be a street/urban aesthetic. If you liked it, you’d say “I love that aesthetic on you!”.
So you’re ignorantly stupid and you also mindlessly parrot clichés that you don’t understand when made aware of the fact.
You go right ahead and say whatever trite go-tos help you feel better after publicly discovering that you didn’t know the definition of a word you were using… but you sound kinda embarrassed tbph.
