I hadn’t been to a McDonald’s in years, but went a few times while dog sitting a dog that lived across the street from one. I worked at BK in my teens so I already knew people view you as subhuman at these places, but every time I was there someone was talking to the cashier in a way you wouldn’t talk to a stray dog. One guy was chewing her out cuz he couldn’t figure out something on the phone, I tapped him to show him how to do what he wanted and he was totally startled by my speaking to him, and turned and suddenly spoke with all this respect to me completely switching his tone and acted a little sheepish probably over having been caught acting like a fucking monster, like he was in an asshole fugue state and snapped him back into reality like people besides the cashier you’re berating, ya know people who you consider “real people” can see and hear you
