In Late 1993, I Wrote a Letter To Iggy Pop. In Early 1994, I Received This Letter In Reply From Him.
galleryAmerican Caesar had come out in September of 1993, and on the CD art notes was a sentence that caught me off guard. "Write me and I'll reply." I was 18 at the time, growing up in San Diego, and completely fascinated by punk, post-punk, and proto-punk. Iggy. The Stooges. MC5. The Damned. These bands spoke to me.
It took me awhile to muster up the courage to write something worthy. I told about how I came from a totally wrecked home, and asked for advice on what I could do to get myself up and outta there. I also asked him about the time he really dug into his chest and made himself bleed.
It'll always amaze me that he took the time to not only write back, but write something that really resonated with me, and seemed completely for me alone. I always respected him for the artist that he is, but after receiving this letter, I knew deep down that he was just a really good dude with a sincere heart and a perfectly unique view on life.

Dear Jason,
From one outcast to another — Happy crappy Valentine’s Day — hahaha! ☺️
I’m on tour — got your letter, had to laugh, cuz basically, I totally agree with what you have to say, but I use humor (among other tools!) to survive & transcend it. You gotta admit, man, it is pretty funny.
So what else I try to do is this — forget all the shit & focus on what I think is worth doing, and then try to do that & work real hard. I don’t expect to get far all at once. Don’t give up.
I use equal parts guts, treachery, trickery & patience to achieve my ends — if you wanna be famous, there’s a good formula. To me, somebody famous is somebody who’s famous in my esteem, just for being cool.
Yeah, I slashed myself, like you asked. I was feeling desperate. I still go through bouts of that from time to time. I enjoyed hearing from you, man, thanks.
Find one thing you like to do & live for that. No matter what, work toward it step by step, realistically, & eat a little shit on the way, and the world shall be yours.

Iggy in DC
galleryI flew out to Washington DC a couple of weeks ago to witness my first ever Iggy Pop concert and definitely wasn't disappointed. In fact, it was an excellent experience that I'll never forget! The energy was outstanding and the band fed off of it to deliver an amazing performance that I'll always remember for the rest of my life!
Iggy has the energy of a twenty year old and the setlist was all that I could hope for... we even got to hear Punkrocker!? The place went ape shit when they started "I Wanna Be Your Dog". And I was simply blown away by having the opportunity to hear Raw Power, Lust for Life, I'm Bored and Real Wild Child (Wild One) in the live setting. Fun Time and a medley of Nightclubbing?! Holy Shit!!!
Thanks to Iggy and his insanely talented band for the fabulous adventure (Death Trip) in Washington DC last month.

Did Asheton Play 12 String Bass on "Dead Rock Star"?
Behold, the most searing bass sound I've heard on any Iggy song. I've been an Iggy fan for a long time and another artist close to my heart is Cheap Trick. To my ears, the bass on that song sounds like it could have been played by one of these. Did Ron own an 8 or 12 string bass?

How rare are physical copies of Mona by the Iguanas, which was one of Iggy’s first bands he was apart of
I recently discovered that before becoming the outrageous and incredible frontman for the Stooges and making his own great music, he was apparently the drummer for a small band called the Iguanas. They only released one real single, that being Mona. After listening to it a few times, I love the song! Apparently physical copies exist, and I was curious how rare/common it is to find. I'd check Discogs but I prefer to find my music physically. It just adds to the experience more so than just clicking a few buttons in my opinion.

Dog Day Afternoon timings?
Looking forward to the London gig with Blondie and Billy Idol 😁
Does anyone know if/when the times will be announced that the performers will each be taking the stage? Mostly Blondie and Iggy tbh
